Tina Knowles Reveals Beyoncé Chose Between Jay-Z & Another Man

It involves a surprising romantic crossroads between her now-husband Jay-Z and another mystery man. Read more about Knowles' memoir inside. According to US Weekly , the book shares details about Beyoncé and Jay-Z's relationship. It cites that it began as a slow-burn friendship in the early 2000s. They first connected over phone calls, bonding through deep conversations about music and the industry. 'They provided good counsel to each other,' Tina writes in the book. 'She would tell me, 'He's just so nice.'' But the love story wasn't always a sure thing. At the time, then 21-year-old Beyoncé was filming Austin Powers in Goldmember in Los Angeles while being pursued by another man in the music industry. Both Jay-Z and this other suitor planned to visit her, prompting Beyoncé to turn to her mother for guidance. 'Well, who do you like the most? Who do you enjoy talking to more?' Tina asked her daughter. After some thought, the answer became clear: it was Jay. 'Isn't it humbling how love can begin with such a simple feeling?' Knowles reflects in the memoir. 'You like talking to someone over the phone… You can't know someday you will take that love to the stars.' Beyoncé obviously chose hose Jay-Z, and the rest is music history. As their romance grew serious, Knowles met Jay's family. She met his mom and his beloved grandmother Hattie White, who would later be immortalized on Beyoncé's 'Freedom' from Lemonade . The couple wed on April 4, 2008, in a private ceremony at their home, with both families cooking soul food for the reception. Though Tina Knowles doesn't name the other man in the book, her recounting highlights how love isn't always dramatic or explosive. It can begin with a feeling as quiet and sure as enjoying someone's company. Now, more than two decades later, Beyoncé and Jay-Z remain partners in life and music, raising three children and building an empire. In Matriarch , Tina calls Jay 'a true blessing,' praising both him and son-in-law Tim Weatherspoon for being steadfast partners and protectors of their families. Sometimes the most iconic love stories start with the simplest question: Who makes you feel most at home? Beyonce was involved with a mystery man while courted by Jay-Z, her mom claims in new memoir

Jay-Z had some competition for Beyonce 's affections in the early days of their relationship, her mother has revealed in her new memoir. The singer, 43, began her relationship with the hip-hop mogul as 'just friends', Tina Knowles discloses in Matriarch. However, Tina has revealed that there was a mystery man that Beyonce was presiding over at the time, and she had difficultly in choosing between the two. 'Beyonce had developed a friendship with [Jay], solely over the phone, [in the early 2000s],' Tina writes. 'They provided good counsel to each other as they discussed the industry, each sharing a singular confidence in their artistic vision.' The two got to meet in person for the first time when Jay-Z traveled to Houston for a concert and the singer invited him to her house for a family dinner. 'As Beyonce and Jay then kept up with each other in calls, the friendship deepened,' she explained, adding, 'She would tell me, "He's just so nice."' But while she was shooting 2002's Austin Powers in Goldmember, both Jay-Z and the other man would travel to the set to visit her. The other suitor may have been Bey's longtime high school boyfriend Lyndall Locke, whom she dated from 1993 to 2001. Unsure of which man to pick, the singer turned to her mother for advice. 'Well, who do you like the most?' former hairdresser Tina recalled asking her. 'Who do you enjoy talking to more? 'I watched her think. It was Jay. Isn't it humbling how love can begin with such a simple feeling? You like talking to someone over the phone. You're 21 years old and you can't know someday you will take that love to the stars, but it begins with such a small instinct.' As the couple got more serious, Tina made sure both extended families got to know each other. Beyonce had to meet the approval of her boyfriend's mother, Gloria Carter, his sisters and his grandmother Hattie White, who was featured on Freedom from Beyonce's Lemonade album. 'That was the start of the Carter and Knowles families joining as one family, and we are all very close to this day,' she shared with her readers. 'They had the wedding at their house on April 4 because it was the only place that we knew it wouldn't get out,' she writes. 'Our gatherings would become parties, rich with laughter and storytelling, drinking and dancing. In the Bible it says to eat, drink, and be merry, and that's what our evenings are like with the Carters.'. Tina, who designed costumes for Destiny's Child, revealed she also designed her daughter's wedding dress for her wedding to the Roc Nation founder in 2008. The couple shared video of their special day during their joint On The Run Tour, which aired on HBO. Sharing more details she explained: 'We had a lady make white curtains to cover the walls and windows, right up to the 25-foot ceilings.' In spite of the lavish decorations, the event had a down-home feel. 'I joined Jay's grandmother and mother in cooking all the food,' she wrote, taking the lid off a family secret. 'We did soul food, of course, the best food for a night of dancing and family love.'
