Goldsboro Police Department shares tips on how to avoid scams

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) — The Goldsboro Police Department released a statement Friday on the uptick of scams throughout the state. A scam that is becoming more popular is the use of a card skimmer, a hidden device that is placed on an ATM, gas pump and payment terminal intended to steal card information. Other scams include phishing emails or texts, tech support scams and online marketplace fraud. Cryptocurrency or Bitcoin scams are also on the rise with people posting fake investment opportunities. To protect yourself make sure a card reader is not loose, bulky or misaligned before use. Using a chip or contactless payment will help to avoid information being stolen. Never share personal or financial information with a stranger. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
