Released WNBA Player Struggles to Utter a Word in Emotional Statement
With the regular season about to tip off, WNBA teams are finalizing their rosters and facing tough decisions. While each team entered training camp with more than 12 players, league rules allow a maximum of 12 on the roster once the season begins. And several rookies around the league who were either drafted or signed just last month have already been waived. Advertisement Deja Kelly was among them. She spent training camp with the Las Vegas Aces and made the most of her opportunities during the team's two preseason games. In the first, she tallied nine points, six rebounds and an assist. In the second, she hit the game-winning shot and finished with 15 points and two rebounds. Former Oregon Ducks guard Deja KellyBen Lonergan/The Register-Guard / USA TODAY NETWORK During a recent episode of "Good Follow," Kelly discussed her time with the Aces. At one point, she became emotional and struggled to speak. "Gosh, I'm getting emotional now," Kelly said. "It was such a blessing because um ... sorry I'm not expecting it, um ... because, it was just a sense of happiness, a sense of joy with that team and again to have all that support, especially after the game, seeing all the love that I was getting on social media. I think that's the toughest part because it can be brutal sometimes and uh ... dang ... I'm so sorry. But, it was an opportunity that I'll forever be thankful to that organization for because it built my character, it built again my foundation for what's to come in the future. You said it. Everything happens for a reason." In college, Kelly played four seasons for the North Carolina Tar Heels before transferring to Oregon for her final year of eligibility. In that last season, she averaged 12.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Advertisement The 5-foot-8 guard went undrafted in April's WNBA draft before signing with the Aces. How much are tickets to see Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in 2025?
Vivid Seats is the New York Post's official ticketing partner. We may receive revenue from this partnership for sharing this content and/or when you make a purchase. Featured pricing is subject to change. We can't wait to see what year two holds. After a sterling debut season, 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever are returning for more hoops starting with a preseason game May 3. Expectations are sky-high for the 23-year-old point guard coming into 2025. In her inaugural run, Clark was instrumental in securing the Fever's first playoff berth since 2016, led the league in assists and three-pointers made and was named to the All-Star and All-WNBA First Team. To top all of those bona fides in her sophomore season may be near impossible. Unless Clark switches up her game, of course. 'From a basketball perspective, we have to make sure we help her diversify her defining ability so that she's not predictable,' new Fever head coach Stephanie White said on the Good Follow podcast. 'We can't be so predictable with so much athleticism, speed, quickness and with so much game plan geared toward her.' If you want to see what Clark takes to the court live this year, tickets are available for all upcoming 2025 Fever games including seven against Angel Reese's Chicago Sky, four with Paige Buecker's Dallas Wings and a quartet alongside Breanna Stewart's reigning champion New York Liberty. Best of all, some of them are dirt cheap. At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets for any one home game at Indiana's Gainbridge Fieldhouse was $12 before fees on Vivid Seats. Now, that's a steal. Away games have tickets starting anywhere from $54 to $192 before fees. This season, the 'Point Goddess' will be joined in the starting lineup by center (and fellow former No. 1 pick) Aliyah Boston, shooting guard Kelsey Mitchell and forwards DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard. In 2024, Clark and Mitchell both led the team with 19.2 points-per-game. Also, of note, Boston averaged 8.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. New head coach — and Indiana's 1995 Miss Basketball (!) — Stephanie White comes to the Fever from the Connecticut Sun. In her two seasons with the Sun, the club advanced to the playoffs both years but lost in the semifinals both times. Huge concerts in 2025 Need more live music in your life? Indiana Fever Coach Alarms WNBA Teams With Strong Caitlin Clark Message
As the WNBA calendar flips toward another season, Indiana Fever country finds itself buzzing with anticipation. Last year, Caitlin Clark exploded onto the professional stage, rewriting rookie record books and turning Gainbridge Fieldhouse into a near-capacity spectacle night in and night out. Advertisement Now, with Stephanite White, a former Indiana Miss Basketball, returning to Indianapolis, the Fever have made a statement that's sending shivers through the rest of the league. Yet no one expected her very first public message, delivered on an episode of the Good Follow podcast with Ros Gold-Onwude, to sound like a warning siren to the rest of the WNBA. White's challenge is simple: make Clark even harder to game-plan against. "From a basketball perspective, making sure we help her diversify her finishing ability so it isn't predictable," White explained. "We can't be as fundamentally predictable with as much athleticism, speed, quickness, and as much as the gameplan is going to be geared towards her." Advertisement By turning Clark from a handle-centric maestro into a multifaceted threat, capable of setting screens, attacking from the weak side, and unleashing counterattacks, Indiana plans to keep opposing teams constantly on their toes. For rival WNBA head coaches, this message is unsettling to say the least. If Clark's already historic rookie season (19.2 ppg and WNBA-best 8.4 apg) was just the opening act, what does year two look like under White's tutelage? Indiana Fever Coach Sets the Record Straight on Caitlin Clark's Improvement This Offseason
The Indiana Fever are preparing to return to the court for the 2025 campaign, and when they do, they will feature a new head coach, Stephanie White, on the sidelines. Despite not having coached a game for the Fever, White already has some high hopes regarding Caitlin Clark after seeing some of her improvements this offseason. It goes without saying that Clark enjoyed a strong rookie campaign with the Fever, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. Those numbers earned her a spot on the All-Star squad and the All-WNBA First-Team, while also helping win the Rookie of the Year Award over Angel Reese. Advertisement "Year one — thank you to the many people who have supported me as I've been able to live my childhood dream. I'm filled with gratitude as I reflect on this past year of my life. See you all in year two," Clark said in a post on X back in October after her first season in the WNBA came to an end. White has seen some of Clark's work during the offseason firsthand, and she revealed what the second-year guard has been working on over the past couple of months. "Getting stronger is one. The level of physicality in the W is totally different. That's the way that teams have to try to keep her off balance," White said on "Good Follow." "I think from just a straight basketball perspective, making sure that we help her diversify her finishing ability, diversify in the way that it's not predictable." Clark led the Fever to the 2024 WNBA Playoffs last season, but they ended up getting swept in their first-round series against the Connecticut Sun, who just happened to be coached by White.
