‘People's faces light up': Day celebrating community and kindness launches in Regina
A day meant to celebrate community and kindness has been launched in Regina.
According to a group called the Good Morning Project, June 3 of every year will be recognized as Good Morning Day in the Queen City.
The day is also meant to celebrate civic pride, while encouraging citizens to engage in simple but meaningful acts of kindness.
'You should have seen people's faces light up, especially when you have my 10-year-old daughter saying, 'Good morning,' and in a very loud and friendly way,' Adam Hicks, a member of the Good Morning Project team said. 'It just makes people's faces just light up'
The project originally stems from Regina entrepreneur, Josh Stewart-Van Dusen, who is the CEO at Tandem X Visuals.
'Today is about spreading kindness and just making Regina lean a little more to that quiet little whisper that we all have inside us of just being as kind as possible,' Dusen said. 'We're known for it around the world, so why not show it off in the city here?'
Tuesday morning was the kickoff of the campaign at Victoria Park, which saw Mayor Chad Bachynski address the official proclamation. Hundreds of signs that held positive messages were also placed around the city.
'To really highlight the great people of Regina and the fact that kindness goes a long way,' Bachynski said. 'I think you see today that the number of businesses and residents and ambassadors that have come out to support this event and this initiative, I think it just speaks to the fact that this project was ready for success.'
Additionally, Dusen told CTV that the campaign will see a different positive message posted on their website for every day of the year.
