An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. A ChatGPT Plus subscription costs $20 per month, which rounds up to $240 if you subscribe for a year. Similarly, the Google AI Pro monthly plan costs $19.99, but Google recently introduced an annual billing option that brings the total price down to $199.99. New strings spotted in the latest ChatGPT beta release (version 1.2025.196 beta) indicate that OpenAI may take the same route for its annual ChatGPT Plus subscription. Code Copy Text "description": "Plus annual and monthly subscriptions", "identifier": "plus_annual_monthly", "metadata": { "default_package_index": 1 }, "packages": [ { "identifier": "$rc_annual", "platform_product_identifier": " "platform_product_plan_identifier": "oai-chatgpt-plus-1y-20000" }, { "identifier": "$rc_monthly", "platform_product_identifier": " "platform_product_plan_identifier": "oai-chatgpt-plus-1m-1999" The strings suggest that the upcoming annual ChatGPT Plus plan could cost $200, saving subscribers $40 compared to the monthly billing option. Interestingly, the code does not mention the weekly and lifetime payment plans we saw previously. OpenAI has not officially announced the annual billing option, but its launch appears imminent. Google Search's new feature lets AI call businesses for you
TL;DR Google is bringing Gemini 2.5 Pro to AI Mode in Search. Deep Research is also coming to AI Mode. All Search users can now use AI to call businesses without picking up a phone. Following last month's announcement of Gemini 2.5 Pro going stable, Google's most intelligent AI model is heading to Search. It also looks like Search is getting a couple of new features to help out with research and obtaining information from businesses. In a blog post, Google revealed that it is rolling out Gemini 2.5 Pro to AI Mode in Search. Although Gemini 2.5 Pro is Google's most advanced AI model, it won't be selected by default. You'll be able to access the model from a drop-down menu in the AI Mode tab. As the tech giant explains, Gemini 2.5 Pro excels at reasoning, math, and coding. However, the default model is built for providing fast, all-around help. Also coming to AI Mode is Deep Research, the tool Google describes as its most advanced research tool. When using Gemini 2.5 Pro, you'll see the Deep Research option in the prompt field. By activating Deep Research, you can ask more sophisticated queries and get back more detailed responses. Gemini 2.5 Pro is coming to AI Mode starting today, while Deep Research will start rolling out this week. The AI model and search feature will only be available to AI Pro or AI Ultra subscribers who have opted into the AI Mode experiment in Labs. However, free Search users aren't being completely left out in the cold. Google also announced that it's integrating a new agentic capability into Search. This agentic capability will allow any Search user to use AI to call businesses without having to pick up a phone. Through this AI calling feature, you'll be able to get pricing and availability information from said business. All you have to do is search for something like 'pet groomers near me' and there will be a 'Have AI check pricing' option in the results. According to the Mountain View-based firm, AI calling is starting to roll out now in the US. However, those who have AI Pro or AI Ultra will have higher limits. There's no word on when this feature will roll out to other markets. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Google's new AI feature helps Gen Zers who are afraid to make a phone call
The tool contacts small businesses for you, without the need for human-to-human contact. RIP interpersonal skills. [Images: Google] BY Listen to this Article More info 0:00 / 2:52 Socially anxious Gen Zers, rejoice: Google's new AI search feature will make phone calls so you don't have to. The feature, which launches today, is designed to help users check current pricing and availability for services at local businesses through an AI-powered calling function. According to a Google spokesperson, it's an example of how agentic AI —or a model capable of thinking, planning, and acting autonomously in real time—can help make everyday tasks easier by acting on behalf of a user. While the spokesperson says that the tool was made for all users, the Google team thinks it might be particularly helpful for Gen Zers, who tend to be more reticent to make phone calls than other generations. A 2024 study by the company Uswitch showed that a quarter of 18 to 34-year-olds never answer the phone at all. The phenomenon even has a name: telephobia. According to a May survey by Google, users aged 18-24 already show higher engagement than other generations when they use Google's existing AI Overviews tool in search. Now, Google is hoping that agentic AI might also help young users tackle certain quotidian tasks without ever picking up the phone. Subscribe to the Design latest innovations in design brought to you every weekday SIGN UP An AI bot for appointments and inquiries To use the new tool, users simply need to search a query related to local small businesses, like, 'nail salons near me' or 'local dog groomers.' These types of requests will yield a prompt that says, 'Have AI check pricing' directly beneath the map of suggested businesses. If a user clicks that prompt, they'll be taken through a short questionnaire related to their needs—in the dog groomer example, that might mean follow-ups like, 'what kind of dog do you have?' or 'what service do you need?' Using those responses, an AI will then make calls to several of the top suggested businesses based on Google reviews, and return to the user with an email or text of each pet groomer's response. While this questionnaire step does take some extra time, the spokesperson notes that it saves the user from needing to make all of the calls themselves, and the whole process should take 30 minutes or less. On the business end, the tool sets a daily limit of how many times one business can be contacted within a day, as well as providing each business an opportunity to opt out of the calls if they choose. Currently, Google's AI-powered calling feature is available for a select group of local business categories, including beauty and wellness, auto maintenance, pet services, and professional services. In the future, though, the Google spokesperson says there's plenty of room to expand this option to additional domains. It's essentially outsourcing the drudgery (and, for some Gen Zers, anxiety) of making a new appointment to your own personal assistant. Stanford professor calls out the narrative of AI 'replacing' humans. Says, 'if AI takes away our dignity, something is wrong'
Not Just Tasks, But Human Worth You Might Also Like: Will the AI takeover spare politicians? Expert predicts 3 unexpected careers that could survive by 2045 From Lab to Life: Leading by Example A Shift in the Narrative In a world increasingly captivated by the power and promise of artificial intelligence , Dr. Fei-Fei Li—one of the most influential voices in global AI research—has made a poignant and powerful appeal: 'AI should never take away our dignity.' Speaking on a recent podcast hosted by the Berggruen Institute, the Stanford professor and former Google AI chief expressed concern over how society talks about technology, especially the use of the word 'replace.''It really, truly bothers me when people use the word 'replace' when it's connected to AI,' Li said during the conversation. 'I think we should really replace that word, and think about AI as augmenting or enhancing humans rather than replacing them.'Her words, both calm and firm, come at a time when industries around the globe are debating the future of jobs, creativity, and even decision-making amid the rise of machine intelligence. While she's no stranger to cutting-edge AI systems—being the creator of ImageNet, the dataset that helped launch the deep learning revolution—Li insists that AI must serve humanity, not displace it. Fei-Fei Li 's reflections on AI go beyond functionality and productivity. She warns of reducing human beings to a series of mechanical tasks that machines can outperform. 'Biologically, we run slower, walk slower, can't fly, can't lift as much, can't calculate as fast. But we are so much more than those narrow tasks,' she this broader sense of what it means to be human that drives her call for a more responsible and emotionally aware use of technology. 'Dignity is at the core of our being,' she said. 'Everybody needs to find their dignity and their value, and that should not be taken away by AI.'Her statement echoes the values at the heart of the Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute , which she co-directs, and AI4ALL, a nonprofit she co-founded to promote diversity and inclusion in the AI academia, Fei-Fei Li is walking the talk. In 2024, she co-founded World Labs , an AI startup developing spatial intelligence systems that seek to understand the three-dimensional physical world in a way that augments human capability. She recently raised $230 million for the venture, showing that technological innovation and ethical leadership can go was recently appointed to the United Nations Scientific Advisory Board and named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People in AI. Her credentials include roles at Google Cloud, board directorship at Twitter, and a long list of accolades from top institutions such as Princeton and podcast message has struck a chord with many who feel uneasy about the unchecked acceleration of automation. Rather than succumb to fear or techno-optimism, Li offers a path grounded in empathy, shared values, and intentional design. 'If AI applications take away that sense of dignity,' she warns, 'there's something wrong.'As AI continues to reshape our world—from how we work to how we relate to each other—voices like Fei-Fei Li's remind us that progress must not come at the cost of our humanity. The challenge ahead, she suggests, is not only technical but moral: to build AI systems that enhance our potential without eclipsing our essence.
