This Battery-Powered Doorbell Now Costs Peanuts, Amazon Is Clearing Out Google's Stock
When it comes to home security and convenience, the battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell is a top choice for many and for good reason. This device offers the flexibility of battery power which makes it perfect for those who want a smart doorbell without the hassle of wiring—something especially appealing if you're not comfortable working with electrical systems. With this model, installation is as simple as mounting the device to your door frame and you're set. No drilling holes, no complicated wiring: just immediate, reliable access to (Wi-Fi) live video and smart alerts. It's this ease of use that has helped the Google Nest Doorbell consistently rank among the top 10 best-selling doorbells on Amazon, a testament to its popularity and effectiveness. Now, Amazon has cut the price of the battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell down to as little as $129 from the original launch price of $179. This battery model is especially attractive because it's for renters or whoever doesn't want to make any such permanent changes to their home. The battery life is amazing, typically months between recharging depending on usage, so you're not continually removing and plugging in the device. See at Amazon Easy to Use Doorbell The Google Nest Doorbell features that make it one of the smartest and simplest-to-use doorbells on the market. It has live HD video with HDR and night vision so you can watch what's happening at your door at any time. The camera's high vertical field of view makes it easy to capture individuals from head to foot or packages fallen on the floor and eliminates blind spots and not letting you miss anything. Doorbell is equipped with intelligence that enables it to detect people, packages, pets, and vehicles and send you customized notifications in the Google Home app – no subscription required. The device works with any door and you can even install it yourself in just minutes. If your Wi-Fi goes out or you lose electricity, the doorbell will buffer an hour of recorded events so you can always know what you missed. For additional needs, you can pay for a Nest Aware subscription (bought separately) to see as much as 60 days' worth of event video history, though note that the battery model doesn't come with constant 24/7 recording even in the event of a subscription. At its current price, it's one of the best deals you'll find for a smart doorbell. See at Amazon

Want a Free Nest Doorbell and Smart Lock? ADT's New Security Deal Surprised Me
Between Feb. 20 and March 12, 2025, ADT is offering a Nest device deal unlike anything I've seen them do before. If you're a new customer purchasing a security system, you can get two free (usually expensive) home security devices, including Google Nest cameras and their powerful AI features. New buyers adopting an ADT system will have two choices: They can get a free Google Nest Doorbell and a Google Nest Cam, or they can choose a Google Nest Doorbell and a Yale Smart Lock without paying extra for these devices. The Nest Doorbell and Yale Smart Lock combo is particularly compelling because of ADT's Trusted Neighbor system, which uses Google's facial recognition technology to allow you to label friendly faces. The system can then automatically unlock the front door if it recognizes a family member or friend approaching who has the right privileges. Note this tech is blocked in some areas, like the city of Portland, Oregon and the state of Illinois. In my ADT Plus 2024 review, I noted that the Google Nest integration is the strongest factor ADT has in its favor right now, and said, "ADT Plus doesn't seem like a security system from a 150-year dinosaur. It feels like a modern smart home system eager to embrace the latest AI functions and advance into new areas like the personal profiles of its Trusted Neighbor system. DIY installations are accessible, the app looks better than it ever has, and the sensors prove quite dependable." However, I also noted that some ADT pricing issues remain, and this impressive deal does come with the usual caveats -- in other words, you'll have to spend some money to get free stuff. First, you'll need at least a 36-month monitoring contract which starts at $50 per month (but usually ends up higher with various add-ons), or a self-setup system starts at $40 for at least one month. Second, the system you buy needs to be either at least $599 for a pro-installed version or $270 for the self-installed option. Also, the system you pick must work with the Trusted Neighbor features ADT is offering. You can read all the lengthy fine print here. While some contract requirements exist, this deal is very good for Google Nest fans willing to do a self-setup option for their ADT system and pay at least $40 per month. Keep in mind, ADT's latest system includes options like motion sensors, window/door sensors, smoke detectors, leak detectors and other devices for lots of protection options. Since the deal only lasts a few weeks, look into it early if you're serious about a security system. On that note, now is a great time to compare our best DIY home security systems and best security systems overall.
