BJP workers seek ouster of NC Hills council CEM over graft
Silchar: A group of BJP workers from Dima Hasao district has submitted a petition to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, demanding the immediate removal of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) chief executive member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa.
In a letter, they accused Gorlosa of engaging in "anti-BJP activities, corruption, dictatorial governance, and illegal operations".
The petition outlines serious charges against Gorlosa, including unauthorised land encroachments, misappropriation of govt funds, and violations of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The signatories urged his replacement with a "capable and elected" council member to restore public confidence and ensure administrative transparency in the hill district.
The letter also links Gorlosa and his wife, Kanika Hojai, to illegal rat-hole coal mining in the Umrangso area. On Jan 6, a mine collapse in Kalamati resulted in the deaths of at least nine workers due to sudden flooding. The mine, allegedly connected to the couple, was operating in violation of a govt ban. A judicial inquiry has been ordered, and FIRs have been filed against those involved.
Further allegations include the illegal extraction of timber and bamboo from multiple reserve forests, including Krungning and Langting Mupa, allegedly with the CEM's direct or tacit approval.
