Green Bay's colonial past honored by Heritage Hill reenactment
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Those in Green Bay wanting to experience life in the 18th century didn't need a time machine this Memorial Day weekend at Heritage Hill. 'The Red-Coats in Green Bay,' a reenactment and history-loving group, brought the American colonial era to life for event goers at Fort Edward Augustus in the Heritage Hill State Historical Park. Celerbrate De Pere's 35th annual car show supports local non-profits The event was in honor of Memorial Day and featured British soldiers marching and firing muskets as well as reenacting the days of the Royal American army in the year 1762. I think a lot of it for me is about connecting with the community and sharing the history of this community. So a lot of people don't know that there were redcoats in Green Bay. It was 1761 to 1763. There were British Garrison here in Green Bay and people just don't know about it. Lieutenant Gorrell was the commander and he had a sergeant and about 14 or 15 soldiers. Rick Seidemann, Lieut. James Gorrell, redcoat Heritage Hill is expected to turn back the clock again in August with an event that will explore the 18th-century French fur trade along the Fox River.
