Guardian Australia announces new editorial appointments
Guardian Australia has made several new appointments and hires in Sydney and its Canberra bureau.
Tom McIlroy has been appointed as chief political correspondent based in Canberra. He has reported for a range of newspapers in Australia and overseas, including The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, Ballarat Courier, Canberra Times and Houston Chronicle. He is also the author of the recently published book, Blue Poles: Jackson Pollock, Gough Whitlam and the Painting that Changed a Nation.
Patrick Commins has been appointed as economics editor based in Canberra. Patrick's most recent role was with the Productivity Commission and before that he was The Australian's economics correspondent and also worked at The Australian Financial Review for more than a decade as a columnist and senior writer.
Jonathan Barrett has been promoted to business editor. Before that he was senior business reporter at Guardian Australia. He also worked at the AFR for almost a decade and more than five years at Reuters.
Luca Ittimani has been appointed as business and economics reporter. Luca recently completed a Scott Trust cadetship with Guardian Australia.
Jonathan and Luca are based in Sydney.
