Women take charge of traffic as part of Devi Ahilya tricentenary celebrations

Indore: In an unprecedented display of community spirit and empowerment, women volunteers took over traffic management at 34 major intersections across Indore on Friday evening, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The initiative, under the banner of "Main Bhi Ahilya" (I am also Ahilya), was organised by the Lokmata Ahilyabai Trishatabdi Samaroh Samiti (Lokmata Ahilyabai Tricentenary Celebration Committee) on May 31 as the city prepared for the grand virtual inauguration of its Metro by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the following day. This marked a historic moment for Indore, as women of the city stepped up to manage traffic during peak hours, treating the city's busy intersections as if they were their own households. Many volunteers held placards with slogans about civic duties, politely urging drivers to adhere to traffic rules and explaining the public benefits of compliance. The women effectively managed traffic at key junctions including Palasia, Mrignayani, Bada Ganpati, Rana Pratap, Dewas Naka, Vijay Nagar, Lotus, Jawahar Marg, and Nandlalpura Chourahas. A training programme for all participating female volunteers was conducted last week to prepare them for this significant role. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Following the second wave of COVID-19, when many, especially women, faced unemployment, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Indore launched a free driving training programme for women. So far, 469 women have been trained across 13 batches. Each batch, comprising 30 to 35 women, received formal driving training, first on simulators and then on the track. As part of the Punyashloka Mata Devi Ahilya's Tricentenary year celebrations, a speech competition on "Devi Ahilya's Good Governance and the Equality of the Current Govt" was organised at Bal Vinay Mandir in Assembly Constituency 5.
