UAE Strengthens Global Position as Cybersecurity and Tech Partnership Hub
The United Arab Emirates is cementing its role as a global leader in cybersecurity and emerging technologies, according to international experts at the Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit 2025 in Abu Dhabi. Held from May 5–6, the summit brought together global leaders and innovators who praised the UAE's advanced digital infrastructure, regulatory agility, and strategic location as key factors in making it a launchpad for international business and tech collaboration. Ned Farhat, founder of Australian cybersecurity firm CyberSage, said the UAE's position enables it to lead global efforts against financial crime and cyber threats. He revealed that CyberSage is in talks to open a local office, leveraging the UAE's environment to expand across the region. Experts at the summit emphasized the growing need for international cooperation to combat complex cyber threats. The event served as a vital platform for public-private collaboration, knowledge sharing, and developing inclusive and sustainable tech ecosystems. Tim Theuri, Executive Head of Cybersecurity at M-PESA Africa, highlighted the summit's relevance to fintech and data protection, adding that the UAE's legal and regulatory approach to cybersecurity serves as a benchmark for African nations. With over 61 million users, M-PESA aims to adopt similar strategies to enhance data security and financial inclusion. Janne Hirvimies, CTO of post-quantum cryptography firm QuantumGate, praised the UAE's early adoption of regulatory frameworks for next-gen encryption. He noted ongoing collaboration with the Technology Innovation Institute to advance secure communication tools for the post-quantum era. The summit underscored the UAE's growing influence as a hub for advanced technology partnerships and its commitment to building resilient digital infrastructure in a rapidly evolving cyber landscape. TRENDS to open 25 global offices by end of 2025
6 May 2025 23:42 ABU DHABI (WAM)TRENDS Research and Advisory has announced an ambitious expansion plan to open 25 offices around the world by the end of 2025, in line with its vision to enhance its global presence and strengthen its role in advancing scientific research and knowledge exchange from the UAE to the Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali, CEO of TRENDS, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit 2025 that the expansion includes the opening of new physical and virtual offices in several global capitals and cities over the coming months. He noted that the centre will open official offices in Rome and Paris during the second half of the year, and preparations are underway for a new office in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Al Ali confirmed that TRENDS currently operates 20 offices—both physical and virtual—across the globe, with the latest additions being in Washington and Buenos Aires, marking the centre's official presence in Latin America. These offices aim to expand networks with researchers and global think tanks while enhancing the UAE's role in fostering global knowledge added that as part of its efforts to strengthen international research partnerships, TRENDS recently signed a cooperation agreement with the National Defence College in Argentina, in preparation for a joint scientific conference with the UAE National Defence the sidelines of the summit, the centre also signed an agreement with X Hub Holding, which includes companies specialising in artificial intelligence, technology, and research, to support studies with data and statistics. He revealed that the first outcome of this collaboration will be a public opinion survey in Al Ain, to be conducted soon.
