Praveshanolsavam marks school reopening in district
Praveshanolsavam became a vibrant affair in schools in the district on Monday as part of the new academic year. Much after their parents had dropped them off with lots of assurances, some young ones starting school remained inconsolable despite their new bags, bottles, and uniform. Yet, there was no dearth in smiles and the sight of children getting happy at seeing their peers. Children, in their innocence, had their fair share of awe at the newly-painted classrooms and colourful decorations. In many schools, students were greeted with gifts, sweets, and crafts, making Day One welcoming. Teachers too chipped in with their gags while receiving the tiny tots. The State-level Praveshanolsavam was telecast in all schools. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil inaugurated the district-level Praveshanolsavam at Government Higher Secondary School, Kavalayoor, Attingal, on Monday. Recalling the State's progress in the area of education, the Minister highlighted the infrastructure development undertaken in schools in recent years. On the academic front, two weeks of bridging exercise would help students transition to this year's syllabus and make them aware of a range of issues, such as personal hygiene, cleanliness, preventing violence, need for emotional control, keeping public property safe, legal awareness, health check-ups, social media addiction and dangers of substance abuse. Praveshanolsavam of today, he said, is very different from what they used to be. As the elaborate affair it was once, they were much liked by students reaching school for the first time, he pointed out. O.S. Ambika, MLA, presided over the function. The Minister also inaugurated a new building for the school constructed using ₹30 lakh from Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board and ₹18 lakh from the MLA's asset development fund. District panchayat president D. Suresh Kumar was present on the occasion.

Celebrations mark reopening of schools in Kannur, Kasaragod
Vibrant celebrations marked the beginning of the new academic year in schools across Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday (June 2, 2025). The Praveshanolsavam (school opening day celebration) unfolded as a grand cultural event, full of colour, music, and community spirit. At Government Higher Secondary School, Azhikode, the district-level inauguration was led by K.V. Sumesh, MLA, who lit the ceremonial lamp. District panchayat president K.K. Ratnakumar, District Collector Arun K. Vijayan, and other dignitaries were also present. The Corporation-level ceremony took place at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for girls, Payyambalam, Kannur. Mayor Muslih Madathil inaugurated the event, which was presided over by Deputy Mayor P. Indira. Councillors and other dignitaries also attended the celebration. Meanwhile, students of Buds Special School at Kannapuram also began their academic year with Praveshanolsavam. M. Vijayan, MLA, inaugurated the event, emphasising the important role Buds institutions play in nurturing the talents of children with special needs. The District Collector distributed study materials and Kannapuram grama panchayat president K. Rathi chaired the function. At present, 32 Buds institutions—including 24 schools and eight rehabilitation centres—operate in the district, providing education and job training support to 1,084 trainees. The institutions, jointly managed by Kudumbashree and local bodies, aim to empower children with special needs. In Kasaragod In Kasaragod, Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Madikkai, hosted the district-level school reopening festival. Rajmohan Unnithan, MP, encouraged students to embrace the new beginning. The programme included a Zumba dance performance by the Hosdurg team and a robot-led kite display, all organised following green protocols. Payasam was distributed to participants, and for the next two weeks, every academic day will include an hour-long awareness session for students. Former MP P.P. Karunakaran handed out school bags to new students, while E. Chandrasekharan, MLA, was the chief guest at a meeting chaired by district panchayat president P. Baby Balakrishnan.

For students of Vellarmala school, a new chapter in life
The students of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Vellarmala, Wayanad, who had lost their school building in the 2024 landslide, were welcomed to the school's new building on Monday (June 2, 2025) in a grand manner. The new building has been constructed on the premises of Government Higher Secondary School at Meppadi, where the Vellarmala school has been functioning since the landslides, by the Builders' Association of India (BAI), with modern classrooms and toilets. The students were welcomed by the teachers, accompanied by a band. As many as 25 teachers from the High School section, which achieved 100% results in the SSLC, and 11 teachers from the Higher Secondary section, which secured 83% results in Plus Two, were honoured for their 2024–2025 performance. National vice-president of BAI N. Raghunathan inaugurated the event held on the premises of Government Higher Secondary School. Headmaster (in charge) of the High School section V. Unnikrishnan presided over the event. The BAI had planned to construct 12 classrooms and 16 toilets for the school at a cost of ₹3 crore. While eight classrooms and 10 toilets have been completed, the remaining will be finished and handed over by the end of June. The six divisions of the high school, with 250 students, have been transferred to the new building. The two extra rooms are being used as the staff room and laboratory. The water purifier units and public address system set up by BAI at a cost of ₹2 lakh were also handed over during the inauguration. Meanwhile, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra extended her warm regards to the 'Praveshanolsavam' held in different schools in the region. The district-level Praveshanolsavam was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Munderi. In her message, Ms. Vadra wished that such an occasion would encourage cooperation and creativity among children, besides showcasing their academic and cultural talents.

Robot steals the show at Nadakkavu Girls HSS as new academic year kicks in Kozhikode
There was a special guest who welcomed students at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakkavu, Kozhikode city, on the first day of the academic year on Monday (June 2, 2025). iPAL, a robot designed and created by the students of Nilgiri College of Arts and Science, Tamil Nadu, made the 'Praveshanolsavam', the event to mark the first day, memorable. The students were seen curiously milling around the robot to see how it works. The district-level 'Praveshanolsavam' event was at the Government Higher Secondary School, Peringolam. Opening the event, Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas said that the curriculum implemented in schools this year would focus on humanism and civic sense. There would be sessions for the purpose in the coming two weeks. Zumba dance practice would be made part of the studies in a bid to enhance the physical fitness of the students and also for their mental rejuvenation. The ongoing campaign against substance abuse would be strengthened further. A project to improve the quality of education was also being implemented this year. P.T.A. Rahim, MLA, and Sheeja Sasi, Kozhikode district panchayat president, among others, were present. As many as 60,000 new students have sought admissions in aided and government schools in the district this year. Education department officials claimed that around 99% of textbooks had been distributed.

Schools reopen after summer holidays; ministers distribute books in Salem and Namakkal
Schools reopened after the summer holidays on Monday, and Tourism Minister R. Rajendran distributed books to students in Salem. All government, aided, and private schools in the Salem district reopened on Monday after the summer holidays. Teachers welcomed students back by distributing flowers and sweets. During a ceremony at the Fort Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Mr. Rajendran presented books and uniforms to 421 students, alongside District Collector R. Brindha Devi. Speaking to reporters, the Minister stated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was prioritising the education and health sectors through schemes like the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, Pudhumai Penn, Tamil Pudhalvan, Illam Thedi Kalvi, Ennum Ezhuthum, etc. Additionally, model schools and smart classrooms have also been provided. Of the 1,640 government, government-aided and self-financing schools in the district catering to students in Class I to Class V, 67,700 students study in Tamil medium, while 31,906 study in English medium. Among the 350 schools serving students from Class VI to Class XII, 1.16 lakh students study in Tamil medium, while 61,814 students study in English medium. A total of 6.36 lakh books have been distributed to Tamil-medium students, while 2.33 lakh books have been provided to English-medium students. Additionally, uniforms have begun to be distributed to 59,179 children aged two to five enrolled in 2,697 anganwadis. In the function, MLA R. Arul, Salem Corporation Mayor A. Ramachandran, Corporation Commissioner Elangovan, Chief Educational Officer (CEO) M. Kabir, and officials from concerned departments participated. Likewise, in Namakkal district, Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Mathiventhan distributed books to students at the Government Higher Secondary School at Anna Salai in Rasipuram in the presence of District Collector S. Uma.
