Minister for Public Health Ma. Subramanian has informed that all sanctioned doctor posts in the government medical college hospitals, government hospitals and the taluk hospitals will be filled-up within next 10 days. Speaking at a function held at Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital here on Tuesday, Mr. Subramanian, after inaugurating MRI scan and new hospital buildings in various parts of the district, said the Tamil Nadu government, which was according highest priority for creating modern medical facilities in all medical college and the government hospitals, had sanctioned MRI scan, each costing about ₹7 crore, for 18 government medical college and the government hospitals across the State in the past four years while installation of this facility in the Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital was nearing completion. The patients could avail the MRI scan for just ₹2,500, which would cost at least ₹8,000 in the private scan centres. Since the patients from poor families were being covered under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, and no money would be collected from them for the MRI scan also. Similarly, the PET CT scan facility was available in Tirunelveli, Kancheepuram, Coimbatore, Salem and Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospitals for detecting and treating cancer. This facility was coming up in Thiruvallur, Villupuram, Tiruchi Government Medical College Hospitals and Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital in Chennai. Minister said the sanctioned doctor posts in all 2,286 primary health centres had been filled up even as steps were being taken to depute the doctors with postgraduate degrees to all taluk and the medical college hospitals. 'Hence, all vacancies in the government medical college, government and taluk hospitals will be filled up within the next 10 days,' he assured as District Collector K. Elambahavath, during his address, had appealed to the minister to take steps for filling-up the vacancies in the medical college hospital. While informing that 1,474 hospital buildings had been built in the past four years in the hospitals, minister said the ongoing construction of a seven-storey-building with 650 beds of the super speciality block on an outlay of ₹136.15 crore in Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital would be completed at the earliest. He said the Tamil Nadu Government had urged the Union Government for releasing funds for creating 50 new primary health centres and 500 health sub-centres in Tamil Nadu. Along with MP Kanimozhi, the minister also laid foundation stone for 23 new hospital buildings to be constructed in various parts of the district on an outlay of ₹19.23 crore. Ms. Kanimozhi said that Mr. Subramanian had promised to sanction PET CT Scan for Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital as the Tamil Nadu Government was creating better medical facilities in the government hospitals on par with the private hospitals. Ministers P. Geetha Jeevan and Anita R. Radhakrishnan were present.
