Andhra Pradesh JAC Amaravati welcomes revival of Monthly Grievance Day for employees

The Andhra Pradesh JAC Amaravati has welcomed the State government's decision to reinstate the Monthly Grievance Day initiative to address employee concerns at both the department (HOD) and district collectorate levels. In a statement issued on Thursday, A.P. JAC leaders Bopparaju Venkateswarlu and Palisetti Damodara Rao recalled that employee grievances were largely ignored during the previous administration. This prompted the JAC to launch a 92-day statewide agitation, which culminated in the issuance of Government Order Rt. No. 1233, dated June 24, 2023, mandating the conduct of Grievance Day on the third Friday of every month across all departments and districts. However, the JAC pointed out that the initiative had not been implemented uniformly across the State. In response, the JAC escalated the matter to the Chief Secretary at the Chief Minister's Office on December 5, 2024. The issue was subsequently forwarded to the General Administration Department (GAD) via CMP Note No. 709/Prl Secy/(MRC1)/2024, dated January 6, 2025. Following this intervention, the GAD issued a memo on July 6, 2025 (Memo No. GAD01/SWODMDS/4/2025-SW), reaffirming that Grievance Day must be held regularly and that all pending employee issues should be resolved within a specified timeframe. Departments have been instructed to conduct fortnightly reviews of complaints and ensure strict adherence to the original 2023 guidelines.

Wild boar menace has farmers up in arms

Farmers expressed concern over unabated destruction of crops by wild boars which had claimed the life of a farmer near Tiruchuli, during the monthly farmers' grievances redress meeting held here on Friday. The farmers brought the son of the deceased farmer, Kalimuthu, to the Collectrate and submitted a petition seeking ₹10 lakh compensation for the loss of banana crop and another ₹10 lakh for the family of the deceased farmer. A senior farmer, N.A. Ramachandra Raja, said that the Government Order to cull wild boars issued in January 2025 has not been implemented in the district. Deputy Director, Srivilliputtur Meghamalai Tiger Reserve, Devaraj, said that district-level committee headed by the District Collector, DD (SMTR), Project Director (District Rural Development Agency) and District Revenue Officer has been formed. Similarly, village-level committees comprising foresters and village administrative officers have been formed. 'We request the farmers in areas that are highly affected by wild boars to give a written request which would be sent to the State Government for further action. Shooting down the wild boars in open areas would lead to loss of life of people in cross firing,' he said. He also said that a cage has been set up in two places for catching the animals. However, the farmers were not convinced by his reply. They said that the forest department has come up with a highly non-feasible action plan. The officials are camping during day time, while the wild boars come out of their hideouts only during nights, one of them claimed. Mr. Arjunan said that it was the concerns raised by farmers of Virudhunagar district that such a Government Order was issued for culling the wild boars, but no action has been taken. Another farmer, R. Rampandian, said that the forest department officials should leave the issue with the farmers who could handle the wild boars. Mr. Arjunan wanted the cooperation of the forest officials in allowing farmers to chase the wild boars back into the forest. 'All that you should do is not book case against farmers,' he said. He said that Kerala Government was encouraging farmers to shoot down wild boars. The issues of procurement of mangoes and cotton by regulated markets was raised to help the farmers get better price. Farmer Vijaymurugan complained that coconut trees, which were grown on around 30,000 acres of land in Virudhunagar district, did not have insurance. Similarly, insurance of cattle heads was also discussed at the meeting. District Revenue Officer R. Rajendran, Personal Assistant (Agriculture) to Collector Nachiyarammal, Revenue Divisional Officer, Sattur, Kanagaraj, were among those who were present.

CPI demands patta for hill farmers in Erode district

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the State Government to issue pattas (land ownership rights) for poramboke lands that have been under cultivation by farmers and tribal communities in Erode district's hill areas for several decades. The demand was made during the party's North Erode District Conference held recently in Sathyamangalam, where various resolutions were passed. One key resolution highlighted that farmers and tribal residents in the hill regions of Thalavadi, Kadambur, and Bargur have been cultivating on one or two acres of government poramboke land without formal land titles. Due to the absence of pattas, these communities are ineligible for crop loans, compensation for crop loss caused by wild animals, electricity connections, and access to government welfare schemes. The resolution pointed out that despite their long-standing cultivation, the Revenue Department continues to deny pattas, citing Government Order (G.O.) No. 1168 issued in 1989. The G.O., introduced following landslides in the Nilgiris district due to heavy rain, prohibits issuing pattas in hill regions to prevent soil erosion and environmental degradation. However, CPI leaders argued that the terrain in Erode is significantly different. Unlike the Nilgiris, agriculture in Erode's hill areas is carried out on flatlands, and there have been no recorded instances of landslides or soil erosion. The party termed the application of the 1989 G.O. to Erode as unjustified and said it has led to continued deprivation of rights for hill farmers. The resolution also noted that under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, pattas are being issued to those cultivating on forest lands, making the denial of pattas for revenue poramboke lands inconsistent. Further, the resolution drew attention to the plight of homeless families in hill regions who are unable to afford land or housing. While the government provides free house site pattas in the plains, it does not extend the same benefit to hill residents due to the 1989 ban. The CPI has called on the government to exclude Erode district from the scope of the 1989 G.O., issue pattas for poramboke lands under cultivation in the district's hill areas, and provide free house site pattas to homeless residents. The party urged immediate government action to address the long-standing issues faced by hill farmers and tribal communities in the district.

On Saturday, along with Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Red-dy, he laid the foundation stone for an Automated Testing Station building at Dandampalli near Nalgonda, with a cost of Rs 8 crore.
