Capcom confirms 'Resident Evil 9' for February 2026
After nearly two years of radio silence from one of gaming's most iconic horror franchises, Capcom has finally lifted the veil on Resident Evil 9, officially titled Resident Evil Requiem. Set to launch on February 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, this new chapter in the long-running survival horror saga promises a chilling return to the series' roots—with a few major surprises along the way. The reveal trailer for Resident Evil Requiem opens in classic RE fashion: eerie music, flashing lights, and a murder mystery. Players are introduced to Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent and the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the investigative reporter from Resident Evil: Outbreak. Grace is called in to investigate a grisly scene at the very hotel where her mother met her end. Things quickly spiral into the bizarre, as a mysterious illness begins claiming lives and grotesque creatures emerge from the shadows. But the biggest shock? A brief shot confirms that players will revisit the ruins of Raccoon City, the ground zero of the Resident Evil outbreak mythos. The iconic Raccoon City Police Department (RPD) even makes a fleeting appearance, sure to stir nostalgia among longtime fans. Despite these tantalising teases, Capcom is keeping major story and gameplay details under wraps—for now. Gameplay specifics are still a mystery. Persistent rumours suggest Resident Evil 9 may adopt an open-world structure, a significant evolution for the series. However, Capcom hasn't confirmed whether the game will be open-world, linear, or somewhere in between. It's also unclear if the game will continue with the first-person perspective used in Resident Evil 7 and Village, or revert to the third-person camera seen in Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Given the cinematic presentation of the trailer, third-person seems more likely—but nothing is off the table. What is confirmed is that Resident Evil Requiem will be playable at Gamescom 2025, with Opening Night Live scheduled for August 19. That event will likely provide a deeper dive into the gameplay systems, tone, and structure of the game. According to industry chatter, Resident Evil 9 is poised to kick off a three-year streak of annual Resident Evil releases. If true, this could mean new entries, remakes, or spin-offs in 2027 and 2028. Capcom seems ready to reignite its flagship horror series in a big way, and Requiem looks to be the catalyst. For now, the wait for February 27, 2026 begins—and with it, the speculation, excitement, and dread that only a Resident Evil title can deliver.

Summer Game Fest 2025: A New Era of Horror Begins With RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM
Capcom had everyone fooled during Summer Games Fest 2025 as they teased potential upcoming information on the next installment within the Resident Evil franchise, only to drop a full trailer at the close of the show. The next video game in the beloved survival-horror franchise is titled Resident Evil Requiem. The trailer lays out part of the narrative, but also teases fans with something they have wanted for a long time—the return to Raccoon City. This will be the first time the franchise has returned to Raccoon City since the government's use of a nuclear bomb to contain the monster-making T-virus. And for many, we thought that with Albert Wesker meeting his end at the end of Resident Evil 5, going back was never going to happen. However, with the last few installments tying the current storyline back to the original, hope started to brew. RELATED: 6 Horror Queens from the Resident Evil Video Game Franchise Resident Evil Requiem Trailer Breakdown The trailer for Resident Evil Requiem introduces a new character to the franchise, Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst. She is also the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a character from the Resident Evil Outbreak series . Alyssa investigated the original outbreak in her hometown of Raccoon City and blew the cover of Umbrella. The resemblance is too uncanny not to be true. At the beginning of the sneak peek, Grace is seen typing up a report about a fourth victim of an unidentified disease found in an abandoned government office. If that isn't suspicious enough, Grace is approached by her boss, who is sending her out on an investigation tied to her current investigation. This new body has led them to the Wrenwood Hotel, the place where her mother was killed eight years ago. Things take a shocking twist as Grace finds herself tied down to a stretcher in a mysterious face. Then the trailer flashes through clips within the hotel, featuring a mysterious gentleman waiting for Grace, followed by flashes of Alyssa, and then numerous shots of Raccoon City devastated by the nuclear bomb. New Era of Horror The official website for Resident Evil Requiem states it will mark the beginning of a new era in the survival horror genre. This is thanks to the team's ability to blend technological advancements with a story full of rich characters and enhanced immersion. Capcom never holds any punches when it comes to taking their games to the next level. The graphics in the trailer look incredible, and getting a chance to tie into a lesser-known installment is exciting. RELATED: Movie Review – Welcome to Raccoon City In true Capcom fashion, little is known about the game. We don't know who the antagonist is or whether any of the franchise's iconic characters will appear. With a return to Raccoon City, we may get, at least, a cameo or two. We haven't seen any gameplay action just yet, but the Steam page does confirm that it will stay in the third-person point of view. We hope that the new installment will feature a mechanic similar to Resident Evil Biohazard, where much of Ethan finds videotapes to help flesh out the story. Grace could find similar things left behind by her mother to explain what had happened. What's Next for Resident Evil? We still have quite a bit of time before Resident Evil Requiem graces our computers and gaming platforms. This means expect more news to come. Capcom is also preparing to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary next year. We don't know much about their plans, but we know it's going to be big. Be sure to check back in over the next few months for updates and enjoy the brand-new trailer below. Resident Evil Requiem drops on February 27, 2026, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. RESIDENT EVIL Main Storyline Games, Ranked

Resident Evil Requiem Revealed, But Where's Leon Kennedy?
After a fake-out earlier in Summer Game Fest on Friday, Resident Evil Requiem, or Resident Evil 9, was shown for the first time. The new title is the first mainline entry since Capcom released Resident Evil Village in 2021, and is rumored to feature series stalwart Leon Kennedy. In the trailer, the only person we saw was a character named Grace Ashcroft, who works for the FBI and appears to have ties to Raccoon City. For the most hardcore Resident Evil fans, the name Ashcroft will ring a bell. Alyssa Ashcroft was one of the survivors of the online-only title, Resident Evil Outbreak for the PS2. Alyssa was a journalist who was trapped in Raccoon City during the events of Resident Evil 2, and she, along with other survivors, had to escape the city before it was destroyed. Grace is Alyssa's daughter, and in the trailer, she is going to visit the Remwood Hotel, where Alyssa was murdered. Later in the trailer, images from what appears to be the remnants of a destroyed Raccoon City are shown -- including the police department from RE2 -- so it appears Resident Evil 9 will return to where the series started. Leon's (rumored) return is a big deal for the series, which has made some of its best games with him in the starring role. He first showed up as a rookie cop in Resident Evil 2, which built on the original game's success with more story and improved monsters and level design. He showed up again in Resident Evil 4, which took the series in a new direction by introducing an over-the-shoulder perspective, instead of the usual static camera angles and tank controls. Leon was also one of several playable protagonists in Resident Evil 6, a game that seemed to forget about its survival horror roots. We mostly don't talk about that one. But the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 was an excellent return to form, bringing RE4's gameplay and much better graphics to a fan-favorite entry. The RE4 remake was a similar success. Resident Evil Requiem is set to drop Feb. 27, 2026, for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, but we're hoping to get our hands on it this weekend. If you want to catch up on older Resident Evil games, Capcom is having a sale that includes basically all the games, including Village and the three remakes.

'Resident Evil: Requiem' Takes New Heroine Back To Raccoon City In Feb 2026
Capcom has brought the next chapter in the Resident Evil franchise to life, and a new protagonist is set to take centre stage. Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025 as the livestream's closing announcement, Resident Evil: Requiem will take fans back to where it all started when it releases on 27 February 2026, marking a welcome return to its roots. The trailer gives a first look at Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent related to Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak , the first title in the series to feature co-op gameplay and online multiplayer support, who's tasked to look into a series of strange deaths at the scene of her mother's murder. The clip then cuts to her strapped to a gurney, with a shadowy figure in a chair saying, 'I know now that you're the one that I've searching for… special one. Chosen one.' A destroyed Raccoon City also makes an appearance, complete with the remnants of Raccoon City police department and the bomb mark that took it out in Resident Evil 3 . Not much else is known about the upcoming title, but it will feature 'spine-chilling realism like never before, with complex character details like lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets that are sure to keep players on the edge of their seats.' The official blurb is as follows: 'Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core. A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team's depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that's more immersive than ever before.' The arrival of Resident Evil: Requiem has been highly anticipated, following a tease during its summer stream last July, and more recently, amid the celebration of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4 Remake . It got the rumour mill going, which suggested an open-world setting and a conclusion to the story current story arcs, alongside a new beginning for the franchise's future. Resident Evil: Requiem hits PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on 27 February 2026. Si Jia is a casual geek at heart – or as casual as someone with Sephiroth's theme on her Spotify playlist can get.
