Scotland's 'best city for a night out' that was named top Europe party destination
It features famous nightclubs, acclaimed restaurants, and much more. Summer is here, which means more people across Scotland will be heading out with their friends for some fun. Now that the chill of winter is long behind us, it is the perfect time to enjoy a night on the town. There is no wrong way to have a night out, and everybody will have their own preferences. Some enjoy heading to a nightclub for an evening dancing, while others prefer a more quiet and laid-back activity. Deciding where to go is also a major decision to make, with Scotland's cities generally offering the most variety. One was even previously named among the best in Europe for night out. As previously reported by the Daily Record, Glasgow topped a list of Scottish cities based on factors like late-night events, dance clubs, public transport, and facilities such as hotels and restaurants. It was even described by the experts as a "city that never sleeps". When it comes to nightclubs in Glasgow, there is a huge range of options to consider. There are clubs to suit every taste and preference. Among the most popular nightclubs in the city are Sub Club, The Berkeley Suite, and La Cheetah. The former is among the world's longest-running underground dance clubs, and specialises in house and techno music. Elsewhere, another top nightclub in Glasgow is Club Tropicana. Unlike most clubs in the city, which play predominantly contemporary music, Club Tropicana is dedicated to the 1980s—with themed decor and special event nights. If club nights are not your thing, many other venues in Glasgow regularly host other types of live music. The city was even previously named the UK's first UNESCO City of Music. Whether you are into jazz or rock, there is a venue in Glasgow for you. King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, The Garage, and Barrowland Ballroom all regularly feature famous musicians from around the world. A more unique option for a night out in Glasgow is Fayre Play, which describes itself as "Scotland's first funfair games experience for adults". It features nine funfair games, including 'skee-baw' and duck hunt, while food and cocktails are also available. Meanwhile, there are also plenty of places to grab a bite to eat in Glasgow on a night out. From fine dining restaurants where you can enjoy a fancy dinner before heading out to takeaways you can nip into on the way home, you are spoiled for choice. The city is home to Michelin-starred restaurants UNALOME by Graeme Cheevers and Cail Bruich, while other popular choices include Ox and Finch, Ubiquitous Chip, and Sugo Pasta. On the other hand, heading to Blue Lagoon for a fish and chips after a night out is a rite of passage in Glasgow. Unsurprisingly, given its status as Scotland's biggest city, there is also no shortage of places to spend the night in Glasgow. Whether you are looking for a fancy hotel with a spa or just a place to rest your head, the options are endless. Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel is a five-star hotel in the heart of Glasgow. It features recently renovated rooms, a renowned spa, and even destination seafood restaurant iasg. Other accommodation options include the Dakota Hotel Glasgow and the Doubletree By Hilton Glasgow Central. There are also many Premier Inn and Travelodge hotels dotted around the city.

Scots Michelin star chef opens new fine dining restaurant at Cameron House
Graeme Cheevers returns to Cameron House almost 10 years on with a new fine-dining concept on the shores of Loch Lomond. A Michelin-starred chef has opened the doors to his new fine-dining restaurant at luxury five-star resort Cameron House. Acclaimed chef Graeme Cheevers, from Glasgow, made a triumphant return to Loch Lomond with the eagerly anticipated launch of Loma. Cheevers once served as Head Chef at Cameron House under Martin Wishart more than a decade ago. Reuniting with his roots, he has returned with his own vision which promises to push the boundaries of Scottish cuisine and elevate the resort's gastronomic status. Housed within the stunning surroundings of Cameron House, Cheevers hopes Loma will become a new jewel in Scotland's fine-dining scene. 'I am thrilled to return to Cameron House to create Loma,' said Cheevers. 'This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Scotland's finest produce in a destination that truly embodies our country's elegance and spirit. "Our goal is to offer guests an unforgettable dining experience, one that combines precision, creativity and warm Scottish hospitality. I hope Loma will become a must-visit for both locals and visitors alike.' The restaurant will offer a seasonal menu championing Scotland's rich natural larder - from Loch Fyne langoustine to Argyle Estate red deer, Orkney gold beef and Perthshire strawberries. Loma will be Cheevers second venture after opening popular restaurant Unalome in 2021 in Glasgow. The Michelin-starred eatery is known for its modern Scottish flavours and meticulous craftsmanship. Cheevers confirmed he will remain hands-on in both Loma and Unalome, splitting his time to ensure each kitchen maintains its standards, identity and commitment to culinary excellence. Will Oakley, Managing Director of Cameron House, welcomed the partnership. 'We are delighted to welcome back Graeme Cheevers and collaborate with him on this exciting new venture. I didn't choose the best time to visit this five-star luxury loch-side Scottish hotel

Contributed When I went, last month, not so much. First of all, the spa was shut for refurbishment. It's due to open at the beginning of June, with a new swimming pool and other bells and whistles. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Even without a glow-up, I adore that attraction, especially the rooftop infinity hydropool. Sadly, no visit this time. Also, Graeme Cheevers hadn't yet opened Loma, though it has since filled the slot that the excellent Tamburrini and Wishart restaurant once occupied. I'm a big fan of this chef's Glasgow venue, Unalome by Graeme Cheevers, and the Japanese meets Scottish menu at Cameron House looks tip-top. My main course would've been the North Sea turbot gilled over binchotan with Lore Valley asparagus, Ginjo sake and toasted rice. Oh well, another time. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad At least, rather than crying my eyes out, I did ALL the other things. Firstly, we checked into our Loch View Suite, with its roll-top bath in the plush boudoir, and a little stone balcony, where we could watch the shenanigans of the local oystercatchers and swish cars pulling up at reception. This room also has the biggest wet room, with showers pour deux, that I've ever seen. Contributed Then, we made the most of the other facilities. And that's a lot, even if you're not having a shot on their championship 18-hole golf course, The Carrick, or the smaller nine-hole Wee Demon. For example, they've got their own cinema, which was screening just-released films like Black Bag on our visit, or do a speed boat ride on the loch, try jet skis, 4x4 adventures, pony-trekking, play pool in The Tavern bar, or try archery or falconry. On my last visit, I did kayaking, and it was brilliant. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad However, in order to avoid terrifying The Scotsman's insurance department, we opted for the sedate Champagne cruise on their yacht, Celtic Warrior, which you'll find along their pier, parked near other boats with cheeky names like Jacqui Ohhh! and Still Nauti. We sat on deck, with tartan blankets over our knees and glasses of fizz in hand, as we listened to our captain tell us about Loch Lomond's islands, including Inchmurrin. This is the UK's largest inland island, and is home to The Scottish Outdoor Club - Scotland's oldest nudist club. Sadly, I couldn't confirm their existence, as there were no binoculars to hand. That oxygenated tour piqued our appetite and, even if Loma wasn't open, there were plenty of other decent meals to be had at Cameron House's eight restaurants. These include La Vista - their one-year old Italian-influenced eatery, which is in a single storey building situated past their self-catering lodges, and down at the marina. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Its menu includes grilled swordfish, an extremely decadent ossobuco alla Milanese, as well as a selection of pizzas. For pudding, they've got all the crowd pleasers, such as tiramisu and my old-school favourite, rum baba. On our second night, we ate at the slightly smarter Cameron Grill. Contributed After a starter of pea espuma, angel hair, poached egg and thyme powder, I might've opted for the sophisticated-sounding duck breast, with beetroot, cherry ketchup, radicchio, and marmalade jus. However, all I really craved was a fillet steak. Zero regrets, especially as this medium rare slab came with confit garlic and herb butter. They also serve breakfast in this huge room. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad In the morning, there are tureens full of crispy bacon and egg, haggis and sausage, plus wheels of Arran Cheese and Continental meats, but they've made a real effort to include healthy options, with tons of different smoothies on offer, fresh fruit, yoghurts, kefir and skyr, and an excellent nutty granola. I was erring towards the virtuous end of the buffet, as I wanted to visit their gym afterwards. Nobody can do star jumps with a stomach full of sausies. Last time I stayed at Cameron House - in one of their smart self-catering apartments - I was so fixated on the spa, which is in a separate building, that I didn't even look at the in-house Leisure Club. Their technogym has an excellent selection of free weights and cardio machines, but I found myself in a vigorous kettle-bell class, with moves that were choreographed to Nineties house music. As the spa was shut - oh sorry, have I mentioned that already? - we used their family-friendly pool, which has a Jacuzzi and a kids' flume. I was desperate to have a shot, especially when I heard a member of staff saying that Ronaldo stayed at the hotel once, with the Portuguese national team, and had more than one go. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad In the end I was too self-conscious, so that's something that I can carry over to my next visit. And I hope there will be one, because Loma and the new spa remain on my wish list.
