Temporary bus station set up at Conestoga Mall during construction

Bus users at Conestoga Mall will need to hop onboard at a temporary bus station while Grand River Transit makes improvements to its current platform. The transit service is laying down fresh concrete at the bus island and upgrading the crosswalks. Other improvements include new tactile edges along the bus bays, new tactile surfaces for navigating the station, new shelters, passenger information displays, a fare vending machine, security cameras and lighting. Construction will start in mid-June and is expected to take approximately three months. During that time, the bus platforms will be closed, and buses will pick up passengers at a temporary station north of Sport Check. ION train service will not be affected.

Grand River Transit introducing new fareboxes on its buses

New fareboxes will be soon rolled out on Grand River Transit's fleet of buses. While they look similar to the previous version, there are key differences in how they work. The smart card reader has moved to the top of the farebox. To the right of the reader, is the scanner for transfers. Grand River Transit promises the new fareboxes will also speed up the paying process for coins. New fareboxes will start rolling out this week! Key differences: • Smart card reader is on the top of the farebox • Transfer printer is on the front of the farebox • Transfers are scanned on top of the farebox • Cash payment and transfer printing is quicker! — Grand River Transit (@GRT_ROW) May 20, 2025 Another difference is that transfers will print from the front of the farebox. Grand River Transit said the fareboxes will start popping up in buses this week.

Kitchener: Council recently amended the city's bylaw to only permit personal firework displays on three holidays: Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali. Brant County: Recently changed its bylaw so family fireworks can only be set off on Victoria Day and Canada Day, as well as the three days before and three days after those holidays. Outside those days, the fire chief needs to approve a permit. People who are caught not following the bylaw of their municipality around private fireworks displays can be given a ticket. Some of the bylaws say how much it could be for, such as North Dumfries which says fines can range up to $5,000. Others, like Wellesley, say the fine is determined upon conviction.
