Griffin and Bosnjak goals win Munster Senior Cup for Cobh Ramblers

Munster Senior Cup final: Cobh Ramblers 2-0 Rockmount Cobh Ramblers excellent start to the season continued with a 2-0 victory over Rockmount in the Grandons Toyota Munster Senior Cup final at Turner's Cross. Mick McDermott and his players wrapped things up in the first half with Waterford native Shane Griffin and David Bosnjak hitting the back of the net. This is the club's eighth overall success and their third in four seasons, following victories in 2022 and 2023 over Cork City. Rockmount were out to lift the trophy for just the second time, and the sat back from kick-off as Cobh dominated possession. With that came chances, starting with a stunning Bosnjak shot that Oisin Barry pushed out for a corner. Cobh went on to take the lead in the 12th minute after the Rockmount goalkeeper parried the ball inside the box, and Griffin was in the right place head in. The Ramblers kept going, and this drive almost saw Cian Murphy turn in a James O'Leary cross for an own goal. Rockmount eventually broke and Ian Mylod's run was short lived as Cobh easily won the ball-back at the St Anne's End. The Ramblers got their second in the dying seconds of the half, with Bosnjak firing in after the Munster Senior League side struggled to deal with a corner. McDermott wanted more and that mean bringing on Barry Coffey, who did score but that was ruled out over an offside. Samuel Bellis also got into space after collecting a pass from John O'Donovan, and effort was blocked down by the Rockmount defence. The Munster Senior League side went for it late on, and an opportunity to pull a goal back was poked wide by Kieran Keneally at the back post in the 75th minute. The Ramblers responded by closing the game out by simply passing the ball around, something helped by substitute Jonas Hakkinen coming forward and boosting numbers in the middle of the park. COBH RAMBLERS: Timothy Martin; Nolan Evers, Brendeán Frahill, Cian Coleman (Jonas Hakkinen 66), John O'Donovan, Dale Holland (Barry Coffey HT), Jason Abbott, James O'Leary, David Bosnjak, Shane Griffin (Niall O'Keeffe 55), Samuel Bellis (Cian Murphy 75).
