Singing, dancing and City Hall lit up: How Belfast celebrated the end of World War II
Historian Jason Burke charts how the city celebrated the end of the Second World War In his autobiography set in the depressive context of growing up in Belfast during the 1920s and 1930s, poet and writer Robert Greacen invited us to imagine 'a sunny morning in Campbell's during the Second World War'. He was referring to Campbell's Coffee House on the top floor of 8 Donegall Square North which was a venue for cultural gatherings from the 1930s to the 1950s. Here, literary aspirants such as John Boyd and Sam Hanna Bell would congregate; Denis Ireland could often be found there recounting stories and yarns in his unique way. Greacen, however, opted to leave Belfast in 1942 as a result of the war which, by that point had seen the city 'gashed by the Nazi bombers' as he put it. 'After the war, perhaps, change may come… but will the war ever end?' Greacen pondered.

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 14 - Bob Greacen (1971)
Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 14 - Bob Greacen (1971) The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 16th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 14 which has has had a total of 29 players wear the number in the history of the team. The second of those players wearing No. 14 played in the (then) New York (now, Brooklyn) Nets era, forward alum Bob Greacen. After ending his college career at Rutgers, Greacen was picked up with the 17th overall selection of the 1969 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. The Merchantville, New Jersey native would play the first two seasons of his pro career with the Bucks before signing with New York in 1971. His stay with the team would span just four games. During his time suiting up for the Nets, Greacen wore only jersey No. 14 and put up 0.5 points per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
