Green Bay West High School students celebrate ‘signing day' with scholarships to help pay for college

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Four high schoolers in Green Bay earned an incredible opportunity and celebrated with a signing day ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. The four Green Bay West High School students each earned scholarships through the 'Do Great Things Initiative' (DGTI) which works to help the students become college-ready. Pulaski High School teacher surprised with national Read180 Award The DGTI also helps students learn about possible outlets to earn more financial aid, while also helping them get that funding to bridge the financial gap. It was created in 2021 by Jim and Tracy Ryan, after they learned about the lack of West High School applicants to Marquette University. The DGTI doesn't just help with financial aid, they also help students prepare for entry exams and things like the ACT and SAT, even providing assistance with college essays should students be required. Gov. Evers visits Green Bay West to highlight student manufacturing program

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Governor Tony Evers stopped by Green Bay West High School on Monday to spotlight the school's Bay Link Manufacturing program, which has been giving students hands-on workforce experience for a decade. The program operates a high-precision manufacturing lab where students learn key elements of the business—ranging from sales and marketing to production planning, accounting, and customer service. Participants also have the chance to earn college credits and obtain their Computer Numerical Control (CNC) certification. 21 northern Wisconsin counties under warning from DNR face extreme wildfire conditions During the visit, Governor Evers emphasized his administration's continued efforts to support Wisconsin's workforce, especially during 2024's 'Year of the Worker' initiative. Evers pointed to strategic investments aimed at addressing long-standing workforce challenges and preparing students for jobs in a modern economy. 'This is exactly the kind of innovative, forward-thinking programming we need to grow a strong workforce,' Evers said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
