‘Growth Budget' = Growth In Poverty

Press Release – Green Party More children will grow up in cold, damp homes without food on the table because of the decisions this Government has made today. Christopher Luxon has told New Zealand he doesnt care about child poverty with this Budget. The Government's Budget is failing families in poverty by pulling the rug on young people receiving income support and allowing more children to go without enough food on the table. 'This 'Growth Budget' will result in a growth in poverty, particularly for the vulnerable teenagers who have had support stripped away from them,' says the Green Party's spokesperson for Social Development and Employment, Ricardo Menéndez March. 'The Government has just told teenagers doing it tough that they are on their own. A lot of teenagers having to rely on benefits for support do not have family to lean on – the Government knows this, it just doesn't care. ' Furthermore, documents in the Government's own Budget clearly show it is far off track to meeting the Child Poverty Reduction targets, with over 1 in 8 children living in abject poverty under this Government which is willing to fork out billions for the wealthy, while leaving people in poverty behind. 'More children will grow up in cold, damp homes without food on the table because of the decisions this Government has made today. Christopher Luxon has told New Zealand he doesn't care about child poverty with this Budget. 'We cannot keep doing the same and expect something different. A Green Government will end poverty by ensuring everyone has a liveable income. 'We will end all benefit sanctions and remove barriers to accessing income support, and instead ensure everyone has good lives. 'Our Income Guarantee would mean everyone would have at least $395 a week, and in the case of a sole parent a minimum of $755. Our Green Jobs Guarantee and expanded Jobs for Nature programme will create thousands of jobs to ensure young people have the employment opportunities they deserve. A different Aotearoa is possible and within our reach,' says Ricardo Menéndez March.

Minister For The Environment Missing In Action In Budget 2025

Budget 2025 makes it crystal clear that this Government has no interest in protecting nature or securing a liveable future for our tamariki. 'Our environment is in crisis. This Budget proves the Government simply does not care,' says the Green Party's spokesperson for Environment, Lan Pham. 'They have no understanding that their so-called 'laser-focus' on the economy makes them blind to the indisputable fact that there is no economy without a functional environment. 'Not only is there no new funding in Budget 2025 for environmental protection, but they've taken cuts further than we even thought possible. They've raided the waste levy and initiatives which were designed to provide at least some basic level of protection for te taiao. 'While our communities are crying out for action, the Minister for the Environment is nowhere to be seen. 'We needed bold investment and courageous action today. Instead, we got cut after cut after cut. 'It doesn't have to be this way. Our Green Budget, with our Green Jobs Guarantee and expanded Jobs for Nature package, would provide credible support for green infrastructure, oceans, native forests, conservation, and climate resilience, allowing nature to flourish and thrive. 'A better path was possible today. Instead, the Government chose to plunder our whenua and hand it to the highest bidder,' says Lan Pham.

The secret diary of .. Riders on the storm

Christopher Luxon My government is committed to working on the bad weather we've been having this week, obviously I haven't read all the reports on the subject but I know enough to be aware it's been a bit blowy in Wellington and there's been some rain, I think, in Christchurch. And my government is confident that we can deliver a set of deliverables that will take root and come to pass, and I think the best we can all do to make that happen is if we close all the doors and windows. Just the other day Amanda said to me, 'Close the door, were you born in a tent?', and I think that gets to the heart of it, she really has a gift of putting things into words, I think we all saw Paddy Gower acknowledge that recently and in return I'd like to thank Paddy. He took the time to stop and listen. A gust of wind blew a teacup off the kitchen bench, and it smashed on the floor. 'That teacup was part of a set,' Amanda said. Her message was that unity is important. We see that every day in the coalition government. Winston Peters With respect, the Prime Minister is talking through a hole in his head. He has got it hopelessly wrong. If he wants to talk about storms, I hope he'll call me next time. Because New Zealanders aren't the sort of people who close all the doors and windows. We built this nation by staring down a storm. We wrestled it to the ground, and gave it a hiding. But today's generation are soft. Just the other day a barista lisped at me, 'Close the door, were you born in a tent?' A gust of wind blew a teacup off a table, and it smashed on the floor. The barista folded his arms. I could tell he was a man even though he was wearing a frock. Either that, or it was the ugliest woman I'd seen in my life. I said, 'If you think I'm paying for that, you're out of your mind.' But that was already obvious. I took my seat and kept a close eye on him to make sure he used the right bathroom. Chris Hipkins Are the government to blame for the bad weather? The fact is I don't want to play the blame game. I'm interested in solutions. Labour is all about moving on, and moving forward. Just the other day I met with the caucus at a hilltop retreat, and Kieran McAnulty said, 'Close the door, were you born in a tent?' A gust of wind blew a teacup off a table, and it smashed on the floor. I picked it up and tried to fix it but didn't make a very good job of it. Chlöe Swarbrick What the storms tell us is that climate change is here, and it's going to kill us in our beds. Just the other day I gave a speech at the Tokoroa Club, and when I walked in, someone yelled out, 'Close the door, were you born in a tent?' A gust of wind blew a teacup off a table, and it smashed on the floor. I picked it up, and said, 'Let this be a warning to all of you!' And then I announced The Green Party has devised a Green Jobs Guarantee policy that will create 40,797 jobs with stable working conditions and good incomes. It will cost a mere $8 billion. The money will come from somewhere. Rawiri Waititi Just the other day I blundered into a café, and someone yelled out, 'Close the door, were you born in a tent?' A gust of wind blew every single cup, plate and saucer off the tables, and they smashed on the floor. But that wasn't the problem. The problem was the racist attack. I notified the police, and ordered a flat white.
