NCT Group wins regional award for low-carbon industrial park

KUALA LUMPUR: NCT Group of Companies has bagged the Sustainability Champion Award at the Asia Pacific CEO Sustainability Awards 2025, recognised for its work in low-carbon industrial development. The award was attributed to the group's NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP), launched in 2023 as Malaysia's first certified Managed Industrial Park, NCT said in a statement today. It added the 296.23-hectare site incorporates integrated, sustainable design and infrastructure. NSIP recently achieved a five-diamond rating under the Low Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge, after implementing measures that cut baseline emissions by over 50 per cent. Group managing director Datuk Seri Yap Ngan Choy said the recognition supports NCT Group's efforts to shift towards a more sustainable business model. Group executive director Datuk Joe Yap Fook Choy accepted the award on his behalf. "This recognition reflects NCT Group's vision and passion for creating meaningful, lasting impact through every project we undertake," Ngan Choy said. "At NCT Group, we have always strived to craft world-class developments that are not only architecturally exceptional, but also sustainable and purposeful," he added. The group is also developing other green-certified projects, including the NCT Innosphere in Bukit Kayu Hitam, which received the GreenRE Silver Provisional certification in February. The Asia Pacific CEO Sustainability Awards honour individuals and organisations contributing to environmental, social and governance practices in the region.

Sustainable buildings necessary: Mustaza

Published on: Saturday, May 24, 2025 Published on: Sat, May 24, 2025 Text Size: Mustaza said their green building certification system was developed in collaboration with CIDB Malaysia and BCA Singapore. GREENRE SDN BHD Director Datuk Mustaza Mohamad said it is Malaysia's leading green building certification body, with a portfolio of almost 1000 projects and more than 300 million square feet of certified real estate since formed in 2014. In Sabah alone, he said they have 20 registered projects, of which 11 have been certified and its strength lies in balancing innovation with accessibility—making green development achievable, not just aspirational. 'Sustainable building practices are no longer just a trend; they are a necessity for the future of our planet. Malaysia has set a net zero target by 2050 and greening the built environment is a crucial part of achieving this target. 'Green buildings not only reduce environmental impact but also enhance the quality of life for their occupants by promoting energy efficiency, reducing operational costs, and fostering healthier living spaces,' Mustaza said. He said their green building certification system was developed in collaboration with CIDB Malaysia and BCA Singapore. 'We know that green building isn't a one-size-fits-all model. What works in Peninsula may not translate directly to East Malaysia. Advertisement 'That's why local partnerships like this one with Shareda are so important. They allow us to customise support, provide targeted capacity-building, and co-create solutions that work on the ground. 'Our collaboration with Shareda will focus on several key objectives: Creating awareness and education platforms around sustainable development. Providing technical guidance and support to Shareda members pursuing GreenRE certification. 'Offering 20pc discounted certification fees and exclusive member pricing for training and capacity-building programs,' Mustaza said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Certification tool for industry players

Published on: Saturday, May 24, 2025 Published on: Sat, May 24, 2025 Text Size: 'Today, GreenRE's reach spans various sectors — from financial institutions and industrial players to healthcare providers, retail chains and global names like the Marriott Group, Caltex, and Shell — and of course, the property development industry,' Ir Ho said. REAL Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) Malaysia Chairman Datuk Ir Ho Hon Sang said GreenRE formed in 2013 is a homegrown certification tool by the industry for the industry and aimed to promote sustainability in the property sector. The goal was to create a system that is credible, practical, and accessible for developers at every level — a tool that would support the collective journey towards sustainability. 'The importance of this cannot be overstated. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, the building and construction sector contributes nearly 37pc of global energy-related carbon emissions. In Malaysia, this number stands at an estimated 40pc, mainly driven by fossil fuel-based power generation. 'This is why the work GreenRE does is so vital. It goes beyond ticking compliance boxes — it is about transforming how we think about design, construction, and long-term environmental responsibility. 'Today, GreenRE's reach spans various sectors — from financial institutions and industrial players to healthcare providers, retail chains and global names like the Marriott Group, Caltex, and Shell — and of course, the property development industry,' he said. On the MoU signing between Shareda and GreenRE, Ho said he believed this MoU will deepen their collaboration further — not only in their mission to deliver quality homes and infrastructure, but to do so in a more holistic and environmentally responsible manner. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Kota Kinabalu: Sabah developers are set to benefit from two major initiatives with the signing of two crucial Memoranda of Understanding with Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) aimed at promoting sustainable green development and streamlining dispute resolution processes. Shareda's President Datuk Sr Chua Soon Ping said it marked a new chapter in the growth and development of Sabah's housing and real estate industry, 'The first was signed with GreenRE Sdn Bhd, a leading Malaysian certification body that advocates sustainable and environmentally friendly building practices. 'The partnership aims to encourage developers in Sabah to adopt green standards in their projects, aligning with the global push for sustainable development,' he said at the signing recently witnessed by Datuk Dr Roland Chia, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister at Bay Suites. The event was attended by Bicam Chairman Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah, Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) Dato' Ir. Ho Hon Sang, GreenRE Sdn Bhd Director Datuk Mustaza Bin Mohamad, its director Dato' Rick Cheng Wooi Seng, industry leaders and government officials. Chua said GreenRE certification provides a platform for developers to build homes and projects that are not only energy-efficient but also environmentally responsible. Advertisement He said this is crucial for Sabah, as they continue to grow and develop their cities and communities while being mindful of the long-term health of environment. 'By participating in GreenRE certification, developers in Sabah will be able to make a significant contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of their projects and create greener, healthier living spaces for our communities. 'More importantly, it positions Sabah on the map as a State that leads in sustainable development, setting an example for others to follow. 'The impact of this initiative will be felt with benefits such as lower operational costs, increased property values and better quality of life,' Chua said. The second MoU was signed with Borneo International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (Bicam), a platform offering alternative dispute resolution tailored for the housing and real estate sector. 'In a world where legal disputes are often time-consuming, costly, and cumbersome, Bicam provides more efficient and amicable solution through mutual agreements, faster and more cost-effective, avoiding lengthy court proceedings, 'This initiative will serve as a valuable tool for developers, contractors, and stakeholders to address legal matters quickly and effectively, ensuring that projects stay on track and relationships remain intact,' he said. Chua said this would help mitigate conflicts and contribute to smoother operations within the housing and real estate sector. He said property industry players in Sabah can focus more on delivering high-quality and sustainable developments rather than being bogged down by legal delays. Bicam's Wong said the MoU with Shareda represents their shared belief that the development industry deserves practical, accessible solutions for dispute resolution. As construction and real estate projects grow in complexity, he said the potential for disputes also grows, which they do not have to become roadblocks as they can be managed—and resolved—early, fairly, and cost-effectively. Through this MoU, he said Bicam and Shareda will work together to: Organise joint forums, training sessions, and technical talks, Encourage the use of mediation, arbitration, and expert determination in resolving disputes, Facilitate the exchange of publications and best practices, And create a culture of early intervention and constructive dialogue. The former Chief Judge for Sabah and Sarawak said the MoU aims at creating strategic alignment that allows them to serve the industry better, and to empower Shareda members with tools to resolve issues professionally and confidently. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
