Bremen part ways with coach Werner
BerlincTypeface:> Werder Bremen have parted ways with coach Ole Werner after he refused to sign a new deal, the Bundesliga club said on Tuesday. The 37-year-old's contract was due to run out in June 2026, but the northerners have opted to make a change now given an apparent breakdown in trust. 'We very much regret Ole's decision because we could have imagined a long-term collaboration with him. However, as we need continuity and clarity for the future in the head coach position, we have decided to let Ole go,' head of football Clemens Fritz said in a statement. The Green and Whites had an up-and-down season but finished eighth to just miss out on Europe after a strong late run. Bremen join Augsburg, RB Leipzig and promoted Cologne in looking for a new coach in the Bundesliga ahead of the new season. Werner could now interview for one of those roles. 'It's anything but easy for me not to extend my contract,' he said. (dpa)
