Greene teacher alleged to have inappropriate relationship with a student
CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Greene High School teacher is being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with at least one student.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Richard Karl, 54, of Johnson City as a result of an investigation.
Karl was employed by the Greene Central School District, teaching ninth grade Earth Science at the high school.
It is alleged that during the years of 2024 and 2025, Karl subjected at least one student to contact found to be damaging to the physical, mental, and moral welfare of the child.
A warrant was issued for Karl's arrest following the investigation. On April 14, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office and Broome County Sheriff's Office located Karl and took him into custody.
Karl was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Official Misconduct.
He was processed on the charges and turned over to the Chenango County Corrections Division for arraignment.
The investigation is ongoing. More charges may come in the future.
