Matt Cartwright made it official on Thursday — he is not going to try to regain the seat he lost in 2024 to Republican upstart Rob Bresnahan Jr. The question now before the Democratic Party is, who will run. Rumors have been circulating for weeks that once Cartwright announced he would not run, several names immediately surfaced as possible candidates: —State Rep. Bridget Kosierowski. —Pittston Mayor Mike Lombardo. —Sen. Marty Flynn. —Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti. "I will not be a candidate in the 2026 elections," Cartwright said standing in front of the Greenwood Hose Company on Birney Avenue in Moosic. "I worked 80-hour weeks at this job for 12 years. I've decided it's time to give it a rest and give the chance to someone else." Cartwright noted that he secured funding for the new Moosic Borough Police and Fire Emergency Services headquarters that is under construction. Check back at for updates.
