Goode language on education funding goes to governor's desk
Language authored by State Sen. Greg Goode, R-Terre Haute, that would create a local oversight board to ensure transparency and accountability in managing county resources for potential school improvements now heads to the governor's desk for final review. House Enrolled Act 1515 would allow Vigo County the option to transfer funding to the Vigo County School Corp. to help meet the district's needs. 'The language in HEA 1515 is similar to Senate Bill 382, which I authored and passed the Senate earlier this year, but did not continue through the legislative process,' Goode said. 'Vigo County is home to a great public school system, and I am happy to help local officials and the district come together to make much-needed improvements within our schools without raising property taxes.' The oversight board would be made up of members appointed by local government offices as well as the business community. 'As a proud graduate of Terre Haute's public school system, I am excited to see the work that could be done within our community thanks to the funding options this legislation provides,' Goode said. 'I'd like to thank the community leaders who worked on this language and helped me get it to the finish line.' Goode encourages residents of Senate District 38 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Education bill by Sen. Goode on way to governor
An education bill by state Sen. Greg Goode, R-Terre Haute, is on its way to Gov. Mike Braun's desk. Goode says Senate Enrolled Act 448 is intended to the state's public higher education sstem to better prepare the state's workforce for the future economy. It passed the Senate 39-3 on April 17. Goode says SEA 448 strengthens the Commission on Higher Education in approving programs at public colleges and universities and reviewing new and existing degree programs. The aim is to ensure enrollment growth and connectivity to workforce demands. SEA 448 also would enable the state's secretary of education to be more diligent in creating "stackable" credentials, allowing students to earn multiple credentials at once when completing courses with overlapping requirements, the senator has said. "This bill places the success of our future workforce at the forefront of Indiana's post-secondary education system," Goode said in a news release. Goode encourages residents of Senate District 38 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. According to a press release, Amendment 33 to House Bill 1002 would create a local oversight board to ensure transparency and accountability in managing county resources for potential school improvements. 'The legislation comes after months of work with local leaders in Terre Haute to bring interested parties together to help make much-needed improvements in our school district,' said Sen. Goode. Greg Goode hosts free speech event with Rich Lowry The press release goes on to say the oversight board would be made up of members appointed by local government offices as well as the business community.
