Sailing club ready for 2025 season at Lackford Lakes

Sailing and canoeing enthusiasts are gearing up for the start of a new season at Lackford Lakes, near Bury St Edmunds. The St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association (SESCA) is set to kick off its 2025 season on Saturday, March 29, promising a packed schedule of activities stretching until November. With a variety of events lined up, from dinghy racing on Sundays to social sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, there are plenty of opportunities for members to enjoy the water. Activities can be enjoyed at any time, provided two adult members are present. Various events will be held at Lackford Lakes (Image: Gregg Brown) SESCA also offers Royal Yachting Association (RYA) adult and junior dinghy sailing courses, as well as paddle sports training sessions for club members. The association boasts an extensive fleet of training vessels, including Wanderers, Gull, Lasers/ILCAs, Picos, Toppers, and Optimists. Kayaks and paddleboards (SUPs) are also available for hire, allowing members to enjoy the facilities without needing to own equipment. SESCA welcomes a variety of groups, including Bury St Edmunds Sea Cadets, Newmarket and Mildenhall Sea Cadets, Young People Afloat (a sailing youth club), Suffolk Scouts, Priory School, and WASH Sailability. WASH Sailability caters to individuals with various needs and a wide range of physical disabilities. A highlight of the season is the 12th Antigua Sailing Day Regatta, scheduled for Sunday, June 22. This fun-filled event celebrates Antigua Sailing Week in the Caribbean and is supported by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority. SESCA membership rates are set at £25 per year for cadets, £62 per year for adults, and £90 per year for families.
