The Eid Al Adha 2025 dates have just been announced

The UAE moon-sighting committee has officially confirmed the Eid Al Adha start date for 2025. It has now been confirmed that Eid Al Adha 2025 will officially begin on Friday June 6. The confirmed Eid Al Adha start date means that we will enjoy a bumper four-day weekend lasting until Sunday June 8 in Abu Dhabi, considering Arafat Day will fall on Thursday June 5. This means we will be off from Thursday June 5 to Sunday June 8. The holiday dates can be confirmed because we now know the start date of Dhul Hijjah – and Eid al Adha takes place on Dhul Hijjah 9 to 12 as per the Hijri calendar. The Hijri Calendar, also known as the Islamic Calendar, is a lunar calendar used by Muslims to determine the dates of religious observances and events. It is based on the cycles of the Moon, with each month starting with the sighting of the new crescent. The calendar consists of 12 months, totalling either 354 or 355 days, which is shorter than the 365-day Gregorian Calendar that we all use today. The beginning of the Hijri Calendar marks the migration (aka Hijra) of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina. The first month of the Islamic calendar is called Muharram. As the lunar year is approximately 10 to 11 days shorter than the solar year, the Hijri Calendar gradually falls behind the Gregorian Calendar by about 10 or 11 days each year (this is why holiday dates change every year on the Gregorian Calendar). When it comes to UAE public holidays in 2025, after the Eid al Adha break, there will be a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year (predicted for Thursday June 26). It falls on the first day of the month (Muharram) and is the first day of the Islamic lunar calendar. The Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday follows that (predicted for Friday September 5), but all dates are yet to be confirmed. The Islamic Hijri calendar relies on the cycles of the moon, unlike the Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun. The lunar calendar is used predominantly by Muslims around the world to determine the dates of religious events and observances. What is Eid Al Adha? Also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, Eid Al Adha honours the Qur'anic story of Prophet Ibrahim. The holiday coincides with the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and is observed through special prayers, family gatherings, charitable acts and the ritual sacrifice of livestock – typically sheep, goats, or cows – with the meat shared among family, friends and those in need. What's Arafat Day? Arafat Day is observed on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah and marks the most important day of the Hajj pilgrimage. It's also a public holiday in the UAE and serves as a spiritual precursor to Eid Al Adha. Eid Al Adha in the UAE 24 countries offering visa-on-arrival to UAE residents Hassle-free travel? When does the new financial year start and what does it mean for businesses?

SPONSORED BY TRADING 212 The Independent Money channel is brought to you by Trading 212. If you're a business owner or sole trader in the UK, one of the most important dates to keep in your calendar is 6 April, the start of the financial year. The financial year runs until 5 April and is often referred to as the fiscal year or tax year. For business owners, understanding key dates and changes can help you manage your finances, keep your costs under control and avoid any unpleasant surprises. While businesses are allowed to set their own financial years, they must still meet HMRC and Companies House reporting deadlines. This can be challenging for businesses or sole traders that are used to other deadlines, as different countries follow different fiscal calendars. For instance, the US financial year begins on October 1, while many European countries stick to the calendar year. Why isn't the financial year the same as the calendar year in the UK? The reason for this can be traced back to the mid 18th century, when Britain was still using the inaccurate Roman Julian Calendar. By 1752, this was 11 days behind the Gregorian Calendar that many other European countries were already using. Because the beginning of the financial year fell on 25 March in other European countries, the UK government decided to move the new financial year to 5 April to avoid losing any tax revenue for that year. This date moved to 6 April by 1800 but has stayed the same ever since. What the new financial year means for businesses Every year, you will need to submit information about your business activities to HMRC and/or Companies House. If you're a business owner, you will need to prepare your annual financial statements and send your company tax return within 12 months of the end of your accounting period. You must also pay any tax you owe within nine months and a day of the end of the accounting period. For people using a self-assessment, such as sole traders, this deadline for submitting your tax return is always 31 January in the year after the tax year you are reporting. So, this is 31 January 2026 for when submitting a tax return for the current tax year (2024-25), paying any outstanding tax for that tax year and making your first payment on account where required for the 2025-2026 tax year. Fortunately, the tax return is usually the only important document sole traders need to send during the financial year. When the new financial year begins, new fiscal measures, such as changes to tax rates, usually take effect, which can have a significant impact on your business. Therefore, it's important to keep up to date with any changes revealed in the 2024 Autumn Budget and the Spring Statement on 26 March. Incoming changes for the new tax year Here's what we know so far about the 2025-2026 financial year - though, it's important to note that new fiscal measures and tax policies may be announced during the Spring Statement on 26 March 2025. The National Living Wage will increase. This will rise to £12.21 per hour, up 6.7 per cent from £11.44 per hour in the 2024-2025 tax year. This is the minimum hourly rate of pay for UK employees aged 21 and above. The National Minimum Wage will rise by 18 per cent. This will be £10 per hour for workers aged 18-20 (up from £8.40 in 2024-2025). It will rise to £7.55 per hour (up from £6.40) for: Workers under 18 but above compulsory school-leaving age Apprentices aged under 19 Apprentices aged 19 or over in the first year of their apprenticeship There will be higher Employers' National Insurance contributions. From 6 April, Employers' National Insurance will rise to 15 per cent (up from 13.8 per cent in the 2024-2025 financial year). The threshold at which employers have to pay this will also fall from £9,100 to £5,000 per year. Statutory pay rates will rise. New rates will apply for statutory maternity, paternity and sick pay, as well as other statutory parental and sick pay. There will be changes to business rates relief. While there will be an extension to business rates relief for businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, the discount will fall from 75 per cent to 40 per cent, which means rates bills for some businesses in England could almost double. Three reasons to plan ahead for the 2025-2026 tax year: It's vital for businesses to have a solid financial plan in place for the coming year. Here are three things owners can do now - and further key dates ahead to be aware of. Review your payroll budgets. For example, make sure you can accommodate the increase in Employers' National Insurance contributions and the National Living Wage or National Minimum Wage increases. Make sure you're claiming all the tax relief you're entitled to. Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are losing out on an estimated £47bn in potential tax relief for Research and Development. Stay compliant with new legislation and regulations. Avoid penalties and minimise any disruption to your business. Here are the key dates to mark in your calendar if you're a business owner or sole trader, after 5 April as the final day of the 2024-2025 financial year: 6 April 2025: First day of the 2025-2026 financial year 31 July 2025: Second payment on account due for the 2024-2025 tax year (self assessment) 31 January 2026: Deadline for online tax returns for people using self-assessment and individuals in Limited Liability Partnerships (you must also pay your outstanding tax bill for the 2024-2025 tax year and first payment on account for the 2025-2026 tax year by this date) Nine months after your company's financial year ends: submit your annual accounts to Companies House Nine months and one day after your company's financial year ends - pay your corporation tax 12 months after incorporation: submit your confirmation statement to Companies House Nine months after your company's financial year ends: submit dormant accounts if your company is not actively trading check this page, or speak to a financial adviser. When investing, your capital is at risk and you may get back less than invested. Past performance doesn't guarantee future results.

What are the odds? Powerball numbers on 2/22 ‘angel numbers' day included 22, 2x Power Play

It's all about the 'twos' — on 2/22, the Powerball winning numbers included 22 and the Power Play was 2x. And tickets start at $2. For those who don't know, '222' is an angel number and considered lucky. The lottery tie makes it extra special. Here's why. Though no one matched all six numbers in the Saturday, Feb. 22, Powerball lottery drawing for $215 million, it stands out because of its date and one of the numbers. The '2/22' winning Powerball numbers were 7-18-22-50-65 and the Powerball was 15. Power Play was 2x. Is it odd or coincidental to see consecutive or sequential numbers in a lottery draw? As they say in the lottery business, 'it could happen to you.' Grand prize indeed! Powerball winner Edwin Castro publicly claimed $2.04 billion jackpot — on Valentine's Day Angel numbers are repeating numeric sequences, often used as guides for deeper spiritual exploration. Each numeral has its own significance based on numerology. The number two signifies duality and calls for unity, Jenn King, cosmic numerologist, told USA TODAY in a Dec. 20, 2024, story. The appearance of 222 signals a need for reflection, focusing on the duality of situations or scenarios, says King. This angel number has a creative and intuitive energy, especially when it comes to interpersonal relationships. In numerology, two has themes of partnership, marriage, friendships and family, says King. The angel number 222 is deeply rooted in relationships. The call to cultivate better relationships does not stop at your friendships, love or family life. The angel number 222 also makes its way into the workplace. The angel number 222 encourages you to take note of what you want, where you are and how you can learn and grow. It's all about trusting yourself and finding ways to work out your current situation, King explains. The following list contains angel numbers. The next 'angel numbers day' on the Gregorian Calendar would be Nov. 11 or 11/11 or Jan. 1 (2026) or 1/11. It should be noted that 666 is considered a bad sign or omen with its reference to the devil. 000 111 222 333 444 555 777 888 999 Mega Millions players hoping for a multimillion-dollar win were scratching their heads after seeing the winning numbers in a December 2024 drawing. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, Mega Millions numbers were 56-66-67-68-69 and the Mega Ball was 18. Megaplier was 4x. Really, those were the winning numbers. Interestingly, that wasn't the only oddity in that particular lottery streak, which included two Friday the 13th dates — when the streak began, on Sept. 13, 2024, for $20 million, and during a rollover drawing on (another Friday) Dec. 13, 2024. The Mega Millions jackpot with the '66-67-68-69' number sequence was for $760 million on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024. On June 11, 2022, the Virginia Lottery's Bank a Million drawing resulted in the number sequence 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. According to the Washington Post and a KFOX 14 report on July 6, 2022, Alonzo Coleman won $250,000 for playing those numbers. A $1.586 billion Powerball tale: From a small town to 'Today' show with Savannah Guthrie to $6.2 million home Over the years, there have been lottery drawings that resulted in sequential numbers or consecutive number sequences. For example, the April 25, 2023, Mega Millions drawing resulted in consecutive numbers 46, 47 and 48, according to a July 12, 2023, story in TCPalm, a USA TODAY Network newspaper. In case you're wondering, Mega Millions numbers for Tuesday, April 25, 2023: 8-29-46-47-48 and the Mega Ball was 12. On May 12, 2023, the Mega Millions winning numbers only contained the numbers 1 through 5, and it resembled the counting sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The numbers: 1-2-23-40-45 and the Mega Ball was 15, the TCPalm story states. Another numbers oddity in the lottery world? Repeat numbers. On Oct. 31, 2022, the number 13 appeared twice, in the winning numbers and as the Powerball. According to a check on Powerball's site and a robust internet search, the Oct. 31, 2022, drawing was likely the first time the number 13 appeared twice in a Powerball drawing — on Halloween — for a $1 billion jackpot. Largely considered an unlucky number, spooky even, the fact that 13 was pulled twice in a big lottery drawing on Oct. 31 is a fun fact itself. On Monday, July 24, 2023, the Powerball was 25 for the main game and 25 for the double play. A day later for the Mega Millions drawing, the Mega Ball for Tuesday, July 25, was 25. The Mega Ball from the previous drawing (Friday, July 21, 2023) also was 25. For some reason, 25 was a popular number in both lottery games. Strangely, a few days after the Oct. 31, 2022, "number 13" Powerball drawing, something odd occurred − again. On Nov. 2, 2022, the Powerball drawing had an interesting numerical occurrence: The date of the drawing was 11/2/22, the jackpot was for $1.2 billion, and three of the winning numbers contained the date (11, 2 and 22). The $1.05 billion Mega Millions lottery jackpot was won Jan. 22, 2021, which is a palindromic number. When written in this style, 1/22/21, the date (and numbers) are the same when the digits are reversed. Of the 12 times a lottery jackpot has hit $1 billion or more, two of the winning tickets were purchased at a beachtown Publix in Florida and the prize was at least $1.58 billion, according to a Sept. 20, 2024, story in FLORIDA TODAY. One Powerball prize was worth $1.586 billion, and one Mega Millions jackpot topped out at $1.58 billion. Yes! A single ticket was purchased in Maine for the Jan. 13, 2023, Mega Millions drawing. The winner remains anonymous through a trust and accepted their winnings of $1.35 billion through the limited liability company LaKoma Island Investments LLC, according to a Feb. 22, 2023, story in USA TODAY. According to the Mega Millions site, seven Mega Millions jackpots have been won on a Friday the 13th. (For a little irony, the number 7 is, of course, considered a lucky number.) 'Michigan has been especially lucky on that special day, with four winning jackpots (June 2008, May 2011, June 2014, and one shared with Rhode Island in October 2017),' a post on states. 'The game's third-largest prize to date ($1.348 billion) was won in Maine on Friday, January 13, 2023. Friday the 13th jackpots were also won in New York in March 2009 and in Ohio in November 2015.'
