PTPTN writes off loan of UUM student killed in campus bus crash
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has written off a RM12,629.82 education loan taken by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) undergraduate Manarina Hasya Muhamad Karim, 22, who died in a bus crash on campus last month. In a statement, PTPTN said the student's bachelor's degree loan was settled under its Group Takaful Protection Scheme for education borrowers. As part of its PTPTN Prihatin Outreach Programme, the agency visited the family of the student who was killed in a fatal incident near a bus stop along Jalan Persiaran Perdana, UUM, in Sintok, Kedah. "The visit and handover of CSR contributions took place at the family's home in Felda Chemplak, Labis, Johor," it said. The visit was led by PTPTN Corporate Communications and Marketing Department senior general manager Zawiah Wan Abu Bakar, representing the agency's chairman and management. Also present was Johor PTPTN branch manager Rafidah Sidek. PTPTN said the family would also receive RM1,500 in funeral assistance, a RM2,000 cash donation under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, and a food box. "The tragedy on April 19 had a profound impact on the victim's family. As an agency under the Higher Education Ministry, PTPTN remains committed to CSR efforts and the welfare of its borrowers. "We extend our deepest condolences to the family and hope the takaful protection and assistance provide some relief during this difficult time," it said. The Group Takaful Protection Scheme covers PTPTN loan amounts in the event of death or total permanent disability, with 24-hour worldwide protection. Families or students seeking to make a claim must submit a completed Takaful Claim Application Form, available at along with supporting documents to the nearest PTPTN state or branch office, or by post to PTPTN headquarters at Menara PTPTN, Kuala Lumpur.
