Leitrim woman set to follow in her father's footsteps following co-option onto Council
Cllr Irene Guckian Rabbitte was co-opted to the local authority at today's plenary meeting which was held in Carrigallen.
Cllr Guckian Rabbitte succeeds her father Des Guckian who resigned from Leitrim County Council last month.
Cllr Guckian Rabbitte was formally proposed by Cllr Enda Stenson and seconded by Cllr Sean Mc Gowan.
A spokesperson for Leitrim County Council said, 'Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council Cllr Paddy O'Rourke, Chief Executive Joseph Gilhooly and her new colleagues welcomed her to the council and wished her every success in the role.'
South Leitrim councillor Des Guckian resigned from Leitrim County Council after 11 years as a councillor in April.
It is believed the Independent Councillor from Derrywillow, Dromod stepped down on health grounds.
He served on the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District since being first elected to the council in 2014.
Most recently, he ran in the General Election in December 2024 but was eliminated after count four.
