Shah Rukh Khan may rule hearts across the globe today, but his journey to stardom began with a surprising twist. The superstar, who made his Bollywood debut with Deewana in 1992, wasn't the original choice for the role. Producer Guddu Dhanoa recently revealed that the part was initially given to Armaan Kohli , but fate had other plans. Kohli exited the film midway, and it was celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur who suggested Khan's name as a replacement. "Who is Shah Rukh Khan?" Guddu Dhanoa recalls asking Speaking to SCREEN, Dhanoa said, 'Armaan Kohli was in that film; however, he left the film, and it was Shekhar Kapur who suggested Shah Rukh Khan's name to me.' The producer recalled they were en route to Madras to check out the VFX of Anjali when Shekhar made the recommendation. 'I was like, 'Who is Shah Rukh Khan?'' he admitted. Kapur encouraged him to watch Shah Rukh's television work in Fauji and Circus. Though Dhanoa had seen the shows, he didn't immediately remember the actor. Still intrigued, he invited SRK to a restaurant in Delhi once he returned from Madras. That meeting changed everything. The producer shared that he had made up his mind the moment he saw Khan in person, even before the actor officially agreed to the project. 'I had locked him in my mind. For actor Anoop Singh, 'Romeo S3' is not just another film—it's a defining moment. 'Everything I did for the character of Sangram Singh Shekhawat felt truly different—there are so many layers to him,' Anoop says, speaking passionately about his debut as a protagonist in a Hindi film. The role, a dual portrayal of a drug peddler and a DCP, demanded not just versatility but intense physical preparation. 'I had just undergone appendix surgery, and transforming my body for the role while sticking to a strict diet made the experience more challenging—but also incredibly fulfilling.' The film, directed by action cinema veteran Guddu Dhanoa, sees Anoop stepping into an emotionally charged action thriller. 'This was my first time working with Guddu Dhanoa sir, and it was truly an honour. He's a legend, and the detail he brings to every scene pushed me to rise to the occasion,' Anoop shares. Matching his intensity is co-star Palak Tiwari, who plays a bold, independent journalist. 'I play a fearless, curious journalist who stands her ground in chaos. The role was empowering,' she says. 'What impressed me most was their strong grip on Hindi—it made their dialogue delivery natural and powerful,' Dhanoa notes. The title itself, 'Romeo S3', is steeped in meaning. ''Romeo' is the operation's code name, and 'S3' stands for Sangram Singh Shekhawat,' he explains. On staging large-scale action on a modest budget, Dhanoa says, 'With Tinu Verma handling the action choreography, everything just clicked. We rehearsed key sequences extensively—one major scene took three days to rehearse and just a day to shoot.' Ultimately, 'Romeo S3' carries a message of national pride. 'We must celebrate our police and judiciary system,' Anoop emphasizes. And as Dhanoa prepares for a web series featuring Anupam Kher and Dimple Kapadia, and sequels to 'Deewana' and 'Bicchu', 'Romeo S3' promises to be a powerful start to a new chapter for all involved.

Shah Rukh Khan's Deewana To Get A Sequel, Filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa Confirms
Last Updated: Filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa also revealed that he is "keen" on making Bichhoo 2 and added that the script for the same is also in works. Shah Rukh Khan marked his big screen debut with Deewana in 1992 and ever since, there has been no looking back for him. Over the years, he cemented his position as a force to be reckoned with, who not only redefined the career trajectory of an outsider but also earned immense popularity globally, the most recent example being his MET Gala appearance. As for Deewana, there have been ongoing speculations for more than a decade that a sequel is also in the works. And now, we've an exclusive update on the same. Speaking to News18 Showsha, veteran filmmaker and Dharmendra's first cousin Guddu Dhanoa, who had produced Deewana, says that work has already begun on the sequel. The cast of the film is yet to be locked but Dhanoa tells us, 'Yes, Deewana 2 is very much happening. We're currently in the scripting stage. There's still some time before the film goes on floors as my web series will release before that." Dhanoa, who's currently gearing up for the release of his next directorial Romeo S3 on May 16, also spills the beans on another sequel that he's simultaneously working on alongside Deewana 2. 'My film Bichhoo earned a lot of love. We're extremely keen on making Bichhoo 2 and the script for the same is also in the works," he says. Dhanoa, who not only launched Shah Rukh but also Diljit Dosanjh as an actor in the Punjabi film industry with The Lion Of Punjab in 2011, goes on to heap praises on Shah Rukh. 'His evolution and growth as a star has been incredible. He's definitely a very good actor but what's more noteworthy is that he's a lovely human being. And that, I believe, has helped him climb the ladder of success," he shares. As for Romeo S3, it marks Dhanoa's return to the Hindi film industry 18 years after Sunny Deol's Big Brother. Romeo S3 introduces South and Marathi actor Thakur Anoop Singh as a cop in the lead and also stars Palak Tiwari. Interestingly, this is the first film that Palak signed and shot for.
