Billie Eilish Blocked From A New No. 1 Hit By Taylor Swift
Billie Eilish and Charli XCX's 'Guess' rework debuts at No. 2 on two U.K. charts after a Record ... More Store Day release, just behind Taylor Swift's 'Fortnight.' UNSPECIFIED: (EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE) In this image released on August 11, Billie Eilish performs at the LA28 Olympic Games Handover Celebration. (Photo byfor LA28) Billie Eilish comes extremely close to adding another No. 1 to her growing list of smashes in the United Kingdom this week. The Grammy and Oscar winner joined Charli XCX on a reworked version of her dance anthem 'Guess' last year, and it's become a huge success all over again. While it doesn't quite manage to reach No. 1, it nearly does so, and in the process, gives both superstars new top 10 wins. 'Guess' makes a big splash in the U.K. this chart week, launching at No. 2 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles rankings. The only title keeping Eilish and Charli from ruling both lists is 'Fortnight,' the high-profile duet from Taylor Swift and Post Malone. That tune is an instant champion on those rosters, as few can come close to matching her sales success, especially on vinyl. While just missing the top spot might sting, Eilish is used to both winning and placing high on these tallies. The superstar has already landed three No. 1s on the Official Physical Singles chart and four on the Official Vinyl Singles ranking. On the latter ranking, her cuts 'My Future,' 'No Time to Die,' 'TV,' and 'What Was I Made For?' have all risen to the summit. Three of those same singles — excluding 'TV' — also led the physical-only list. Charli XCX, on the other hand, has experienced a slightly different trajectory when it comes to the U.K. sales lists. 'Vroom Vroom' remains her lone No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. She has yet to lead the Official Physical Singles roster, though she's come close on more than one occasion. Despite their slightly different sales chart histories, both Charli XCX and Eilish are frequent visitors to the top 10 on the rankings where they debut this frame. Charli in particular has made a habit of peaking at No. 2, with multiple songs hitting that runner-up position, now including 'Guess.' Eilish has also seen several of her recent cuts just miss the top, though she's previously managed to conquer both tallies. She returned most recently with her dreamy composition 'Birds of a Feather,' which soared to No. 2 not long ago. 'Guess' also returns to two more U.K. rankings this week, in addition to the tallies where it launches in the runner-up spot. The track reenters the Official Singles Sales chart at No. 2 — a brand new high — and also sneaks back onto the main Official Singles list, landing at No. 44. The 'Guess' resurgence is part of Record Store Day 2025. A 7-inch vinyl version of the tune with Eilish was released specifically for the annual celebration, and fans showed up in large enough numbers to grab a copy to make it a chart success – a big one.

Popular apparel company's stock soars after shocking revelation
The luxury market has struggled over the last few years, facing one of its worst slumps since the Great Recession. This down spiral is partly due to an unpredictable global economy and ever-evolving consumer habits, which are causing a softening in customer spending. Don't miss the move: SIGN UP for TheStreet's FREE Daily newsletter Because of this concerning pattern, many fashion companies have had to develop turnaround strategies to cut costs. Some have even had to shed their less profitable counterparts, and others have had to be acquired by bigger companies or accept the fact that closures may be in their near future. Related: SHEIN sued by luxury fashion house over controversial issue However, some luxury companies have managed to stay afloat, with a few fortunate ones getting off scot-free and defying this trend altogether. Guess' (GES) business has been doing relatively well the last few months compared to most of its rivals despite the current luxury slump. In its latest earnings, Guess delivered mostly positive numbers across all its markets but still hit quite a few bumps that signal some potential red flags. According to Guess' third-quarter earnings report for fiscal 2025, total revenues increased by 13% compared to the year prior, with America's retail up 12% and America's wholesale up 79%. Related: Renowned luxury fashion house to acquire struggling rival Although the business was profitable, revenue growth was slightly lower than expected, and America's comparable retail sales decreased 14%, failing to meet expectations. Guess' stock has also been rocky, with shares down nearly 13% year to date. However, a sudden revelation has led its tumbling stock to skyrocket over the last few days. On Mar. 17, Guess announced it had received a non-binding proposal to go private from WHP Global. The brand management and acquisitions firm is offering to purchase Guess' outstanding shares for $13 per share, excluding those currently owned by the company's co-founders and CEO, which make up around 43% of the company's total stock. According to the offer, the transaction would be financed through a mix of equity, third-party debt financing, and reinvestments by rollover shareholders. Guess has formed a special committee to analyze and further evaluate the proposal, which makes the potential for the fashion company to go private even more promising. Nonetheless, Guess stated there is no guarantee that this deal will come to fruition and doesn't plan to disclose any more details or make further comments until a full evaluation is completed. However, despite the huge spike, WHP Global's offer is still higher. It values the company at $751.5 million, representing a premium of over 19%. WHP Global is no stranger to Guess. Apparel retailer Guess gets take-private offer from WHP Global
March 17 (Reuters) - Guess (GES.N), opens new tab said on Monday it had received a take-private offer from brand management firm WHP Global of $13 per share. WHP Global has offered to buy Guess' outstanding shares, except those owned by co-founders Paul Marciano and Maurice Marciano and CEO Carlos Alberini. The three together owned roughly 43% of the company, according to LSEG data. The proposal from WHP Global, which owns Toys "R" Us and fashion labels such as Anne Klein and Vera Wang, represents a premium of 34% to Guess' Friday close. Shares of Guess jumped 31% in early trading on Monday. The company had a market value of about $500 million, as of Friday. The company has formed a special committee to evaluate the proposal, it said, adding there was no guarantee of a deal. WHP Global, founded in 2019 by retail industry veteran Yehuda Shmidman in partnership with funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, acquires global consumer brands. Guess had partnered with WHP Global to acquire New York-based designer handbag maker brand Rag & Bone in April 2024.

Billie Eilish interviews Ariana Grande at ‘Wicked' screening as duo teases potential collaboration
Pop music superstars Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande came together to talk all things 'Wicked' — and in the midst of gushing over each other's work, they hinted at making music together. Eilish interviewed Grande on Tuesday night after a screening of 'Wicked' for an audience of directors and members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the DGA Theater. Eilish, who admitted she's been a big fan of Grande's for years, raved about both Grande's body of work and the film during the half-hour Q&A. A portion of the conversation was recorded and first published by Variety. 'I've always thought of you as — and I'm sure everyone agrees — one of the greatest singers of our generation,' Eilish said. When Grande tried to return the compliment, Eilish quipped back, 'This is not about me, ma'am.' After discussing the film and Grande's Oscar-nominated role of Glinda, Eilish slipped out of moderator mode and back into her musician habits, saying they only had time for a few more 'songs.' She quickly realized she mistakenly said 'songs' instead of 'questions,' and the pair laughed as the audience erupted into raucous cheers. 'I'm on tour, you guys, I'm used to saying that. Sorry,' Eilish said. As Eilish checked her notes, Grande suggested, 'We do need to do that, at some point, though,' referring to the two singing together. Eilish quickly agreed. 'Do it now!' one audience member shouted. The duo continued laughing before politely declining the crowd's clamors for an extemporaneous duet. 'We're vocal resting for now,' Grande said. Eilish and Grande were both recently nominated for Grammy Awards for musical partnerships — Eilish for her work on Charli XCX's remix of 'Guess' and Grande for her version of 'The Boy Is Mine' featuring Brandy and Monica. The rest of the evening was marked by mutual love and compliments. 'My mom is laughing at me because I'm such a fan,' Eilish said. 'I remember finding out that you got the job on the internet and being like 'F— yeah, that's so sick! She's wanted that for so long.' And I didn't even know you then at all. I was so excited.' She also added that she was thrilled to see paparazzi photos of Grande in costume from the set of the film. When Grande said she was touched to hear her excitement, Eilish added, 'I've been rooting for you, b—.'
