Real Health with Karl Henry: Physio fixes – Tech neck, back pain and aging well with Physio Jenny Branigan
Jenny Branigan, chartered Physio and territory manager of parkrun Ireland joins me on this week's episode of The Real Health podcast.
I asked the physio how to maintain lean muscle mass. The mobility expert explained, 'In your mid to late thirties, that's when lean muscle mass starts to reduce. So, a lot of people think about it later, they think about it near retirement. But you have to think about it much earlier because you need to counteract that, and that's the biggest message, I think. We want people to be lifting weights much earlier than they are.'
During the conversation we spoke about how important increased movement is, as we age. The physio pointed out that, 'The World Health Organization Guidelines for Physical Activity recommend 150 minutes of moderate activity per week (cardiovascular activity), and two strengthening sessions. But from 65 onwards they recommend three and that's because of the lean muscle mass piece.
