Girls in jeans, t-shirts caught seeking alms in UP town, sent to police custody
Uttar Pradesh police has detained four girls who were seen begging for alms while dressed up in jeans and t-shirts in Ballia district, giving the impression with their appearance that they are from financially stable to police, the girls, whose names have not been revealed, used to seek alms from motorists and passersby on the Ballia-Sikandarpur National Highway in Ballia. They have been taken into police custody and are being police station-in-charge of Sukhpura said on Wednesday that these girls came from Gujarat and were staying at a dharamshala near the Ballia railway station. They sought alms from people, who were amazed to see them doing so while being nicely dressed up, near the railway station and key intersections and roads in Ballia district, police said.
The senior police officer also said that these girls had been begging, while also showing some kind of receipt or a card that they were holding in their hands to the passersby. All of them were holding a Gujarat Aadhaar card, on the basis of which they had managed accommodation at the from begging, the girls were also selling small booklets to the people for Rs 10 each, the police accused girls have been sent to a women's police station where they will be verified. The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are trying to ascertain their real motive for begging. The police also find it strange that these girls have come to Ballia all the way from Gujarat, which is at least 1,400 kms away from the police are also trying to know the whereabouts of their family members and if these girls ran away from home.
