Qatar's Emir meets Iranian leaders in Tehran amid regional tensions
ALBAWABA- Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for high-level talks with Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The visit comes at a critical time for the region, with Sheikh Tamim emphasizing the need for consultation and coordination in addressing ongoing challenges.
Following his meetings, the Qatari emir shared a statement on X, saying: "Today, I met in Tehran with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as part of our joint efforts to encourage more fruitful cooperation and expand existing partnerships between us in various fields for the good and interest of our two countries and peoples. We also discussed the latest regional and international developments, and together we look forward to intensifying efforts and coordination between our two countries in a way that contributes to achieving the common aspirations that we all seek for the prosperity, progress, and stability of our region."
Discussions focused on strengthening Qatar-Iran relations and addressing key regional issues, including the conflicts in Gaza and Syria.
Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to fostering constructive Gulf-Iran dialogue and stressed the importance of ensuring the success of a political resolution in Syria. He also highlighted Doha's role in advancing the Gaza ceasefire agreement as a step toward Palestinian statehood.
Pezeshkian, in turn, praised Qatar's mediation efforts in Gaza, particularly in ceasefire negotiations and securing the release of Palestinian prisoners.
He reiterated Iran's support for Syria's territorial integrity and the Syrian people's right to self-determination.
