Severe thunderstorm warning lifted in DC region
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for multiple areas across the D.C. region on Saturday afternoon. FOX 5's Gwen Tolbart reports that the warning was issued in Anne Arundel, Calvert, and Prince George's County. Gusty winds are possible today with up to 30+mph wind gusts. The upper low pulling away and bringing rain to New England. Showers are expected and a few isolated/scattered thunderstorms will be possible along a trailing cold front. While not everyone will see them, elevated upper-level winds could lead to a few of these storms going severe. Tolbart says there is also a chance of an isolated cell with damaging winds or hail. This threat seems most likely earlier in the afternoon. Storms will move Northwest to Southeast. Drier air coming in during the evening hours should then lead to any showers/storms dissipating. High pressure builds in tonight. It will be breezy though as the skies clear in the evening hours, and it will stay dry. Highs in the 70s.

Winter weather advisory issued across DC region
The Brief Weather models suggest a possible midweek snowstorm, but details remain uncertain as forecasts evolve. A strong storm is expected to bring rain and gusty winds to D.C. this weekend, with temperatures swinging from the 40s to the 60s before dropping back to the 30s and 40s by Presidents' Day. WASHINGTON, D.C. - The D.C. region has experienced its coldest winter in roughly six years, with 14.8 inches of snowfall so far. FOX 5's Gwen Tolbart shared that a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the D.C. region from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A mixed precipitation is expected across the region. Some wintry mix is expected with ice accumulations averaging 1" - 2/10" in the higher elevations, with locally higher amounts possible. Total snow and sleet accumulations are expected to be up to 1" across northern and western Maryland and portions of eastern West Virginia. A storm system is likely to bring significant snow to the area on Wednesday and Thursday. Whether we could see snow later next week actually begins with what happens this weekend. A powerful storm system will traverse the eastern half of the country from Saturday through Sunday. While some of our mountain zones to the west could start and end this storm with some snow, the immediate D.C. area is just looking at rain for this event this weekend. For travelers through the holiday weekend though, watch out for some heavier snowfall across the interior Northeast as this storm pushes north. For the D.C. area, in addition to the rain, the winds from this storm are expected to be quite gusty, especially on Sunday and Monday. These winds will cause a bit of a temperature whiplash across the D.C. region. Temperatures could rise from the 40s on Saturday, to the lower to middle 60s on Sunday, before collapsing back to the 30s and 40s heading into Presidents' Day. As this storm travels northward, it will displace a lot of cold air that is currently bottled up in southern Canada. Snow possible for DC area Tuesday, winter storm watches issued
The Brief Sunday will be sunny with gusty winds ahead of a storm system next week. There's potential for a winter storm Tuesday and Wednesday. Up to 6 inches of snow is possible for some areas. WASHINGTON - A storm system that models show could hit our area as early as Tuesday morning has the potential to bring up to 6 inches of snow to parts of the D.C. area. What we know Winter storm watches are in effect starting Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. until Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m. for Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Stafford County, Fairfax County, Warren County, Northern Fauquier County, Anne Arundel County, Central and Southeast Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Northwest Montgomery County, Charles County, District of Columbia, Berkeley County. A winter storm watch for Montgomery County from Tuesday at 4:00 a.m. until Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Dorchester County is under a winter storm watch from Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. to Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Timeline Sunday brings a much quieter end to the weekend with some early morning clouds that will give way to some sunshine. Winds are chilly and gusty from the Northwest, gusting up to 30mph, according to FOX 5 Meteorologist Gwen Tolbart. Highs are in the mid to upper 40s. Monday starts the week with sunshine and light winds. Highs on Monday will be in the mid 40s. Tolbart says to expect clouds to move later in the day and evening ahead of the next storm system. Tuesday morning could see significant wintry precipitation into the evening. "All the elements would be in place to support a significant winter event," says Tolbart. "The Low-pressure system would tap into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico on its journey and the Mid Atlantic has enough cold air aloft in place to support snow." That snow could linger into the first part of Wednesday and then exit by afternoon. By Wednesday night, a second weather system will bring a wintry mix or freezing rain that will change to just rain as temperatures rise into the 50s. By the numbers Three to five inches of snow is possible through Tuesday night, with locally higher amounts to around six inches, according to Tolbart. The storm would have the potential to produce mainly significant heavy, wet, plowable snow. Some sleet and freezing rain could mix in along the Southern counties where there would be warmer air. However, the storm system has yet to develop – the FOX 5 Weather Team will continue to monitor. The Source This story includes reporting from FOX 5 Meteorologist Gwen Tolbart.
