Man Spends Years Doing Girlfriend's Makeup—Leads to 'Shocking' Realization

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When a blind woman needed help getting glam for her virtual events during the COVID-19 pandemic, her partner didn't hesitate to pick up a makeup brush—despite having zero experience. Five years later, Arthur Gwynne (u/The_Alchemys), 40, has become his best friend's go-to beautician, with the subreddit "Makeup Addiction" cheering them on every step of the way. "The first attempts were... Not great. But I asked the community how I could improve and they were super supportive and helpful. I took into account their suggestions and would try them on Lachi and post again. We quickly reached a point of 'acceptable,' and about a year into it we started getting some real traction, both in the subreddit community and in real life," Gwynne told Newsweek. Their dedication paid off. Gwynne's most recent Reddit post, showing Lachi in a dazzling purple look to host a Webby x Adobe creator event, racked up 9,700 upvotes and widespread praise. The bold makeup featured a vibrant purple eyeshadow paired with a rich wine-red lip. "It's just been shocking to learn how passionate I am about fashion and style these days. And it's been a real boost for our relationship too: it's intimate, it's fun, and even if we're under high stress, we can grab the calm moment of trust makeup artistry brings before diving back into our chaotic lives," he said. Gwynne, 40, is the head of operations at RAMPD (Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities). His best friend and creative partner, Lachi, is the CEO and Founder of RAMPD, a recording artist, media personality, and disability advocate. Lachi is a legally blind, neurodivergent singer and public figure who uses music, media, and storytelling to amplify disability culture and identity. One of the pair's biggest achievements came when Lachi was chosen as the host of Renegades, a PBS American Masters series created by Day Al-Mohamed, which won a Webby award. The show explores unsung revolutionaries with disabilities who shaped American history. As the two filmed across the U.S.—from Philadelphia to Hawaii—Lachi was simultaneously writing her upcoming Penguin Random House book I Identify as Blind, a pop-culture dive into disability identity. "The whole experience was transformative for both of us!" said Gwynne. "Lachi has received many recognitions, from USA Today's 2024 Woman of the Year to Adcolor Innovator of the Year... but this was the first award for being part of such a bigger collaborative project and as a personality," he said. "It shows that the disability story told by us is engaging, marketable, and award-worthy." Gwynne and Lachi recently celebrated 20 years of friendship. Although they didn't begin working together until 2020, their bond has always been strong. He left his corporate career in executive recruitment to become her business manager and sighted companion full-time. A split image showing Lachi's purple make-up look and posing with her partner and MUA, Arthur Gwynne. A split image showing Lachi's purple make-up look and posing with her partner and MUA, Arthur Gwynne. Arthur Gwynne/Arthur Gwynne "Today, Lachi refuses to let anyone else do her makeup, even on film shoots," Gwynne shared. "My looks have been on editorial shoots, magazine covers, national television, awards ceremonies, Getty, red carpets, oh my! And the r/MakeupAddiction is an integrated part of my continued growth as an MUA." Their post from the 2025 GRAMMYs even became the subreddit's top post of all time, with nearly 5 million views. Lachi's own journey with blindness has also deeply informed her work and activism. "I was born legally blind. So while I have far less acuity than I did when I was younger, I was always navigating the world with vision loss," she shared. "I once felt an overwhelming sense of shame, and hid much of myself, due to my blindness and other differences when I was younger. Today, I am super confident, outgoing and energetic, but I am still blind and neurodivergent, so obviously the disabilities were never the problem. The problem was societal stigma and inaccessibility." She now embraces her identity fully, navigating with rhinestone-covered Glam Canes and using tools like ZoomText, magnifiers, and screen readers to do her work. "As long as I am accommodated, I may be disabled, but I am not impaired." Reddit Reacts Support from the Reddit community continues to be a meaningful part of the journey for both Gwynne and Lachi. "I remember seeing you in this sub before and you rock at doing her makeup. She is stunning and the purple is great on her!" wrote one user. "'Purple for purple's sake' is the motto my aunt lived by, I think, so I'm here for it! Also, you always do such a good job on your partner!" said another. "Your posts always make me smile," added another. Do you have any viral videos or pictures that you want to share? We want to see the best ones! Labour minister who was sacked after a Mail on Sunday investigation revealed he was part of a racist and sexist WhatsApp group is now facing calls for him to quit as an MP

A Labour Minister who was sacked after a Mail on Sunday investigation revealed he was part of a racist and sexist WhatsApp group is now facing calls to quit as an MP. Andrew Gwynne was dismissed as Health Minister hours after the MoS showed Number 10 and the Labour officials vile messages he and others posted on a WhatsApp group called Trigger Me Timbers. Mr Gwynne, 50, who represents the Manchester seat of Denton and Gorton, had his Labour whip taken away immediately, as did Burnley MP Oliver Ryan, who was also a member of the WhatsApp group. In the group, Mr Gwynne joked that a 72-year-old pensioner who complained about her bins would be dead before the next council elections. He also mocked veteran Labour Parliamentarian Diane Abbott for becoming the first black MP to perform at the Opposition Dispatch Box during Prime Minister's Questions, as well as deriding a person whose name was 'too Jewish,' asking 'Is he in Mossad?' Since quitting as a Minister, Mr Gwynne has kept a low profile as an MP, rarely attending any local events, and has not been seen in Parliament. Local residents have been questioning if he deserves to receive his annual £93,904 as an MP when he does so little, said sources. Last week, more than a hundred protesters gathered outside Denton Town Hall – where Mr Gwynne has his office – demanding he stands down as an MP. The protesters chanted 'Andrew Gwynne in the bin,' a reference to him joking he wanted the Stockport pensioner dead after she dared to complain about her bins. Others held placards that read: 'Trigger Me a By-election Now!,' while a huge sign was hung below the Denton Town Hall sign, which read: 'ANDREW GWYNNE, QUIT NOW!!!' As well as Mr Gwynne, the protesters also demanded that that the 11 Labour councillors from Tameside and Stockport councils who were members of Trigger Me Timbers must also quit, one of whom is Mr Gwynne's wife, Allison, 50. She represents the Tameside ward of Denton North East. The MoS expose led to a national outcry over the vile messages a Labour Minister, an MP and over a dozen of the party's councillors and senior officials sent each other. The Labour Party suspended all members of Trigger Me Timbers pending an investigation, while Mr Gwynne is facing a separate Parliamentary Standards inquiry. Greater Manchester Police launched it own probe after receiving dozens of complaints, but last month it emerged that the force decided no further action will be taken. After three months, however, local anger in the North-West has not abated. Two weeks ago Mr and Mrs Gwynne were spotted at Denton's Crownpoint shopping park and were met by dozens of shoppers booing and heckling when they tried to get out of their car. Last week, Mr Ryan – one of the youngest MPs in Parliament at the age of 29 – faced a vote of no confidence motion at Burnley Council, during which all Labour councillors walked out at the time of voting. The motion did not pass, but councillors strongly condemned their MP during a fiery debate. Last night, a Labour spokesman said the party will not give a timeline when its investigation will be concluded. He added: 'Andrew Gwynne has been administratively suspended as a member of the Labour Party. We are investigating comments made in this WhatsApp group in line with the Labour Party's rules and procedures. 'Swift action will be taken if individuals are found to have breached the high standards expected of them as Labour Party members.'

Minister sacked for WhatsApp posts will not face police action

A former minister sacked over racist and sexist comments in a leaked WhatsApp group will face no further action. Andrew Gwynne is under investigation by the parliamentary authorities after he wrote in the group that he hoped a 72-year-old pensioner would soon be dead. He also joked about a local cycling campaigner being 'mown down', suggested that a local vicar be 'burned on a bonfire' and made derogatory comments about Angela Rayner and Diane Abbott. A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman has now told The Telegraph the messages have been reviewed by a senior investigating officer, and that the force has decided to take no further action. Previously, GMP said it had begun 'initial inquiries' into the incident, and recorded a non-crime hate incident in its official figures. The messages provoked fury from constituents when they were first reported in February, while the leak to The Mail on Sunday was blamed on Mr Gwynne's political opponents. In one message, Mr Gwynne called a voter a 'hag' and said she lived in a 's--t' house, according to the full transcript of the chat, seen by The Telegraph. He apologised for the messages, describing them as 'badly misjudged', while another Labour MP in the group, Oliver Ryan, also apologised. Mr Gwynne, the MP for Denton and Reddish, was sacked from his position as a junior health minister on the day his messages were first reported. Both he and Mr Ryan have been suspended by the Labour Party pending an investigation. Meanwhile, Parliament's standards commissioner has launched a separate investigation into Mr Gwynne for allegedly 'causing significant damage to the reputation of the House as a whole, or of its Members generally'. Several people made complaints to the police after the messages were reported, prompting GMP to release a statement that 'a small number of complaints relating to publicised messages allegedly from a WhatsApp group' were being examined. They also confirmed officers had recorded a non-crime hate incident, but said 'initial inquiries' were ongoing. A GMP spokesman told The Telegraph: 'Following the complaints received relating to the recently published WhatsApp conversation, work was undertaken to review the contents by a senior investigating officer. 'As a result of this assessment, Greater Manchester Police has concluded that no further action will be taken. The complainants have been written to and advised of this outcome.'

Andrew Gwynne under investigation by Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards has launched an investigation into MP Andrew Gwynne. Mr Gwynne was sacked as a minister and suspended from the Labour Party earlier this month after the emergence of offensive messages in a WhatsApp group. Mr Gwynne, who is now sitting as the Independent MP for Gorton and Denton, is listed among the allegations under investigation by the commissioner, specifically for 'actions causing significant damage to the reputation of the House as a whole, or of its Members generally' according to the Parliament website. The investigation was opened on February 18 2025, the entry says, and is relevant to paragraph 11 of the members' code of conduct which states that 'Members shall never undertake any action which would cause significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its members generally'. Earlier this month Mr Gwynne said that he regretted 'badly misjudged' comments in the WhatsApp group named Trigger Me Timbers, after he was sacked by the Prime Minister. Reports said he had sent messages to the group including a joke about a constituent being 'mown down' by a truck. He also reportedly said he hoped a 72-year-old woman would soon die after she asked a councillor about bin collections. Mr Gwynne posted on X at the time: 'I deeply regret my badly misjudged comments and apologise for any offence I've caused. I've served the Labour Party all my life and it was a huge honour to be appointed a minister by Keir Starmer. 'I entirely understand the decisions the PM and the party have taken and, while very sad to have been suspended, will support them in any way I can.' Number 10 also said that the Prime Minister 'will not hesitate to take action' when ministers do not uphold high standards. Asked if the Prime Minister expected ministers to call out derogatory remarks in WhatsApp groups, his official spokesman told reporters: 'He's made clear… his determination to uphold high standards of conduct in public office and lead Government in service of working people. 'You saw the statement over the weekend, and he will not hesitate to take action against any minister who fails to meet these standards, as he has done in this case.'

Andrew Gwynne: Ex-Labour minister sacked over WhatsApp messages now investigated by parliamentary watchdog

An MP who was sacked as a health minister after he reportedly posted offensive messages in a WhatsApp group is being investigated by parliament's standards watchdog. Andrew Gwynne, who was also suspended from the Labour Party earlier this month, is listed among the allegations under investigation by Daniel Greenberg, the standards commissioner. According to the parliament website, Mr Gwynne, who now sits as the Independent MP for Gorton and Denton, is being investigated specifically for "actions causing significant damage to the reputation of the House as a whole, or of its members generally". Mr Gwynne, 50, reportedly 'joked' about a pensioner constituent, saying he hoped she died before the next election, according to the Mail on Sunday. The WhatsApp chat contained Labour councillors, party officials and at least one other MP. In a statement following the revelations, Mr Gwynne said he deeply regretted his "badly misjudged comments" and apologised for any offence caused. "I've served the Labour Party all my life and it was a huge honour to be appointed a minister by Keir Starmer. "I entirely understand the decisions the PM and the party have taken and, while very sad to have been suspended, will support them in any way I can." The investigation into Mr Gwynne was opened on 18 February 2025 and is relevant to paragraph 11 of the members' code of conduct which states MPs "shall never undertake any action which would cause significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its members generally". As well as taking action against Mr Gwynne, the Labour Party also suspended newly-elected Burnley MP Oliver Ryan over comments made in the WhatsApp group. The 29-year-old apologised and said he "deeply regrets" the remarks he made, which a government source said were "unacceptable and deeply disappointing". Number 10 also said the prime minister "will not hesitate to take action" when ministers do not uphold high standards. Asked if Sir Keir Starmer expected ministers to call out derogatory remarks in WhatsApp groups, his official spokesman told reporters: "He's made clear… his determination to uphold high standards of conduct in public office and lead government in service of working people. "You saw the statement over the weekend, and he will not hesitate to take action against any minister who fails to meet these standards, as he has done in this case."
