Sivagiri couple murder case: police custody of four accused extended by three days
The Judicial Magistrate Court in Kodumudi has granted the police an additional three days of custody to interrogate the four accused arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly couple at Sivagiri on April 28, 2025. On June 13, police had taken the four accused — P. Aachiappan (48), N. Madeswaran (52), R. Ramesh (54), and Gyanasekaran— into custody for three days. After the custodial period ended, they were produced before the Kodumudi court again on Monday. The police filed a petition seeking extended custody for further interrogation. Upon hearing the petition, District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate G. Pandiarajan extended the custody. The bodies of Ramasamy (72) and Bakkiyam (63), residents of Megaraiyan Thottam in Uchimedu near Sivagiri, were discovered in their house on May 1 — three days after the murder. Investigations revealed that the accused had stolen 10.75 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the couple and sold it to the fourth accused, a goldsmith named Gyanasekaran. All four were arrested on May 19. On June 18, three of the accused were detained under the Goondas Act.

Court grants three-day custody of four in Sivagiri elderly couple murder case
A court in Kodumudi on Friday granted three-day police custody of four men accused in the brutal murder of an elderly couple at Sivagiri on April 28, 2025. The police had sought seven-day custody of P. Aachiappan (48), N. Madeswaran (52), R. Ramesh (54), and Gyanasekaran. However, G. Pandiarajan, District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate, granted only three days custody. The judge also directed that all four accused be produced before the court again on June 16. Following the hearing, they were taken in a police vehicle to an undisclosed location. The bodies of Ramasamy (72) and Bakkiyam (63), residents of Megaraiyan Thottam in Uchimedu near Sivagiri, were discovered in their house on May 1, three days after the murder. Investigations revealed that the accused had looted 10.75 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the couple and sold it to the fourth accused, a goldsmith, Gyanasekaran. All four were arrested on May 19. On Thursday, three of the accused were detained under the Goondas Act, and detention orders were served on them at Salem Central Prison. A police source said the three had earlier confessed to their involvement in a triple murder case in Semalaigoundanpalayam in Tiruppur district on November 28, 2024, along with several other criminal cases, including murder. Their role in those cases will also be investigated during the custody period, the source added.
