How I make thousands of dollars every week from cheap $14 Kmart prints: '10 minutes of work'
A young Australian has revealed the lucrative side hustle which makes him thousands of extra dollars.
Josh McCann, a buyer's agent from Sydney, challenged himself to find ways to make cash in hand with little input.
Rather than more common hobbies like dog walking or dropshipping, he decided to create textured artwork on discounted Kmart prints to sell on Facebook Marketplace.
To his surprise, the listings were a hit with shoppers and the artwork continued to sell for a high price.
He claims each piece only took 'ten minutes of work' then sold them for an average of $250 to $300 even though he's 'not an artist'.
In a now-viral TikTok video, Josh dubbed the side hustle as 'unethical' and revealed the steps involved for others to follow.
First Josh bought discounted prints from Kmart for as little as $14 and Gyprock CSR Jointmaster Topping Compound from Bunnings Warehouse, which set him back $64.20.
'$60 sounds expensive but this will make you about 20 artworks,' he said.
Josh then spread the joint compound onto the cheap Kmart print and 'let his imagination run free'.
'There's no rhyme or rhythm to this. Trust me, I would even use my fingers to just smear this stuff all around the canvas,' he said.
Once complete, he let the canvas dry then took high-quality photos of the artwork to post on Facebook Marketplace.
Josh opted to stage the photos by hanging each piece up on a wall to make it look desirable.
It's the type of side hustle anyone can do if you're willing to put in the time and effort.
But if the prints don't sell, you'd have to accept they might be lying around your home or in the back shed for a while.
Within 48 hours the video exceeded a staggering 1.3 million views, but most didn't consider selling art online to be 'unethical'.
'"Unethical ways" and it's just bro making art,' one wrote.
'What is unethical here? You made and sold art,' another added.
'Hey, as an artist I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this, you have created art and you are also now an artist. Hope this helps!' a third wrote.
'I mean technically it's art?' someone else added.
