Winter storm emergency declared in City of Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Following Gov. Glenn Youngkin declaring a state of emergency for Virginia, Deputy City Manager Brian DeProfio declared a state of emergency for the City of Hampton on Wednesday. The City of Hampton has released information on how the winter storm will impact city services and how residents can seek assistance if necessary. WAVY Weather Detailed Forecast H.E.L.P. Shelter Operations: H.E.L.P.'s A Night's Welcome will operate from 40 Kings Way (Hampton Baptist Church) and remain open throughout the snow storm. All other City of Hampton facilities, including libraries and community and neighborhood centers, are closed on Wednesday, Feb. Roads Transit (HRT): Services will operate until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, but will cease all operations after 4 p.m. and remain closed on Thursday, Feb. courts have been closed for Wednesday, Feb. 19. All school buildings and administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Schools will shift to virtual synchronous learning for the day. All evening sports practices, games, and other school activities scheduled for Wednesday, including the scheduled School Board meeting, are canceled. All trash and recycling collections will be based on road conditions. Residents should leave trash and recycling bins at the curbside and collections will be made when service can be safely completed. Your Say with Mayor Gray: The listening session scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. has been canceled. The next session will take place at Phoebus Community Center on March Black History Month Tour & Workshop at the Hampton History Museum originally scheduled for Feb. 20 has been HR Jazz Lecture at the Hampton History Museum originally scheduled for Feb. 20 has been postponed. A new date will be announced Awards: Originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21. The event has been postponed to Friday, March 14, Aquaplex: The scheduled swim meet will proceed as planned.
