Care home residents in Linlithgow set to welcome Great British Cycle Relay
The event aims to shine a positive spotlight on the work of the sector A care home in Linlithgow is preparing to play its part in the Great British Cycle Relay. The cycling event aims to raise awareness and shine a positive spotlight on the work of the social care sector, and marks Care Home Open Week 2025. There are five day-long cycle rides staged across the UK in the run-up to Care Home Open Week. HC-One Scotland's Linlithgow Care Home in West Lothian, is one of the stop-off points with residents preparing to welcome the cyclists on their route. The Linlithgow residence is part of the Edinburgh leg of the cycle relay on Thursday, June 12 and forms part of the relay team's 103km route. The relay combines cycling, camaraderie and compassion, providing those taking part to promote healthier lifestyle whilst also raising awareness and the profile of care available across different communities by visiting a number of care services en-route to celebrate and highlight the amazing work they do. Linlithgow is looking forward to welcoming in the Great British Care Cycle Relay team to the home to showcase the fantastic facilities and care they offer whilst having a chat and offering the cyclists some light refreshments to recuperate before setting off again. Gemma Munro, Home Manager at HC-One Scotland's Linlithgow Care Home, said: 'We are delighted to be part of the Great British Care Cycle Relay. It's a brilliant opportunity to showcase the warmth and vibrancy of life here at Linlithgow Care Home. Our residents are very excited to welcome the cyclists and take part in the celebrations for Care Home Open Week.' This year marks the third consecutive year that the Great British Care Cycle Relay is taking place and in the lead up to Care Home Open Week taking place, riders will be gearing up to take part in a five-day event featuring daily rides of approximately 100km, designed to raise awareness of the vital role care services play at the heart of communities across the UK. The first official loop will begin in Edinburgh, with the symbolic social care flag then travelling through the Scottish Borders to York for the second stage. From there, the relay will continue to Nottingham, followed by a ride in Wales starting in Cardiff. The final leg will see cyclists depart from Brighton and head to central London, where the event will culminate in alignment with the launch of Care Home Open Week on Monday, June 16.

Glasgow sisters unexpectedly reunited after 13 years apart
Jenny Fraser, a resident at HC-One Scotland's Ailsa Craig Care Home in Glasgow, was unexpectedly reunited with her three sisters to celebrate her 75th birthday. The reunion on Friday, May 23 was organised by the care home's hardworking team who wanted to make sure Jenny's milestone birthday was one to remember. Read more: Around 90,000 Scottish carers to receive financial boost this month Fiona Pryce, wellbeing co-ordinator at Ailsa Craig, said: "Resident birthdays are always a fun time at Ailsa Craig, and we love to make it extra special for our residents and their families. "Seeing Jenny and her sisters together sharing such joy after so many years apart was truly heart-warming and a testament to the power of family." The idea for the reunion began when Jenny's sister Wendy, who lives in Oban, contacted Fiona and Ailsa Craig carer Obi Okoye. Jenny, who thought she was going for a walk in the garden, was delighted to find her sisters waiting for her in the lounge, wearing party hats. The sisters spent the afternoon reminiscing and enjoying tea together over a special spread prepared by Ailsa Craig's kitchen team.

Murrayfield House which provides residential, nursing and nursing dementia care, has invited members of the community to attend their monthly Coffee Mornings. The Coffee Morning events will take place at Murrayfield House from 11am – 12.30pm, second last Thursday of every month. The Coffee Morning events provide an opportunity for members of the community to seek information, guidance and advice within a relaxed setting from highly skilled experts in residential, nursing and nursing dementia care. The team at Murrayfield House can assist or signpost individuals to other available support services. 'We want to create a safe environment where members of the local community can socialise and enjoy each other's company, seek the advice and support they require; and learn more about the care we provide to those living at Murrayfield House Care Home.'
