According to nearby businesses, the closure was already in place when they opened at around 6am. It also led to a 'big traffic jam' heading towards the closure in Aldenham Road during rush hour.
A permit is in place until the end of Monday (February 3), although as it is emergency work the repairs this may be extended or could be completed significantly sooner.
The pavement has been closed, with an alternative route provided.
