Seagull has swastika daubed on its head by sick jailbird at prison that was home to the Krays, Peter Sutcliffe and Gary Glitter
Jailbirds at a prison once home to Peter Sutcliffe and Gary Glitter have drawn a swastika on the head of a mutilated seagull.
The Lesser Backed Gull - called Belinda - was found dead at HMP Isle of Wight in Newport with a few feathers pulled out meaning she can no longer fly.
It comes amid claims birds on site are often captured before being boiled in prisoners' kettles within their cells, Island Echo reports.
HMP Isle of Wight is a Category B prison with over 1,000 inmates - many of whom are sex offenders.
East End gangsters The Krays, Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe and disgraced pop star Gary Glitter previously served time there.
The nasty inmate grabbed hold of Belinda last Friday and then drew the Nazi symbol between her eyes.
The poor animal is now being looked after at Skippers Sanctuary - a local charity that takes care of wild birds.
One volunteer claimed: 'If it were humans they were doing this to, they would get time added to their sentence.
'But because their victim is not a human, no one in a position to take action seems to think it warrants any.'
Belinda is now said to be eating and has been allowed outside under the watch of the charity staff.
A spokesman for the charity said: 'She's doing well. She's very traumatised but she's making progress every day.
'Sadly she is likely to have had babies in the nest.
'Without feathers to fly with, she will need to stay with us for months to grow them back.'
Last June, a bird called Sunshine was covered in yellow paint at the prison, prompting disgust from locals.
Gordon Standley said 'add 10 years on to all their sentences while Debbie York added 'absolutely barbaric'.
Ann Evans said: 'How absolutely dreadful.'
It remains unclear how exactly the birds were captured.
In 2012 it was reported how Isle of Wight prisoners were being allowed to keep pet budgies, canaries and parrots in their cells.
