RTD issues over 1.13 million summonses in major motorcycle crackdown
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has issued a total of 1.13 million summonses for various offences under its Special Motorcycle Operation conducted from last year to date.
RTD senior enforcement director, Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said of the total, 848,885 summonses were issued last year while 283,255 were recorded so far this year.
Kifli said three main offences were identified during the operation — riding without a licence, expired road tax (LKM), and lack of insurance coverage.
"For riding without a valid licence, we issued 301,774 summonses. Another 251,886 were for expired LKM and 233,819 for vehicles without insurance.
"Motorcyclists still commit a high number of offences, and we are continuously stepping up enforcement efforts to curb road accidents.
"This is important because motorcyclists account for 65 per cent of all road accident cases," he said.
Kifli was speaking at a press conference during the Special Motorcycle Operation held in conjunction with Ops Khas Aidiladha (HRAA) at Jalan Kuala Krai here late last night.
On the ongoing HRAA 2025 operation, he said more than 2,000 enforcement personnel had been deployed, with a focus on monitoring and taking action against motorcyclists who flout the rules.
"We urge all motorcyclists to comply with the regulations," he said.
