TV tonight: a messy new case in hospital thriller Malpractice

9pm, ITV1 A messy new case in the second series of the hospital thriller, which this time follows well-intentioned but shifty psychiatric registrar Dr James Ford (Tom Hughes). James is distracted by his phone when a struggling mother comes in for a postnatal checkup and is later involved with the sectioning of a patient. But by the end of the day a tragedy happens, and all of his decisions about the two patients are scrutinised – while he appears to be hiding a secret. Hollie Richardson 8pm, BBC One Fiona Bruce is in both Berlin and Bletchley Park to mark 80 years since VE Day, where she meets veterans with fascinating stories – including a 100-year-old woman who worked with allied codebreakers. The items being valued include stationery from Hitler's mountain retreat and a pair of miniature clogs. HR 9pm, BBC One This Liverpool-set crime drama would have benefited from a tighter edit. But even if it is feeling slightly baggy at this point, it still sustains an atmosphere of looming menace. In the penultimate episode, a bloody showdown between Michael and Jamie starts to look inevitable. Can cooler heads intervene? Phil Harrison 9pm, Channel 4 A Tyneside tearjerker of an episode, as Claudia, Jon, Mika and (special guest!) Mika's dog Sharkey gather at Newcastle station to listen out for the local piano-playing talent. This week's contenders to appear at the final concert include lifelong musician Roger, looking dashing in his velvet blazer, and an 87-year-old widow expressing her timeless heartbreak. Ellen E Jones 9pm, U&W Fair play to Katie Piper, who throws herself into a notorious women's prison in New Orleans without hesitation or judgment in order to find the inmates' real stories. She meets Candice, who was born into gang violence and shot dead a woman she dated (she says it was self-defence). Was she destined to have a gang mentality? HR 10pm, ITV1 No questions are off the table in this surprise hit of a show, in which a neurodivergent panel quiz a celebrity. Former Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall is in the hot seat – going solo and her relationship with Rizzle Kicks' Jordan Stephens will no doubt come under fire. HR The Dark Knight, 9pm, ITV2 Batman is an unusual comic-book hero in that he works best in the shadow of the villain. And in the second of Christopher Nolan's terrific Gotham trilogy (the other two bookend it over the bank holiday weekend) there are few bigger shadows than Heath Ledger's Joker. He is a magnetic, mischievous presence opposite Christian Bale's po-faced vigilante, quick with a quip or a spot of pencil-based violence. And in this dark morality play, even Aaron Eckhart's noble DA Harvey Dent must compromise his principles to get justice.
