The US is India's largest bilateral trading partner, and is a home to millions of persons of Indian origin. India and the US share 'very, very strong ties, whether in the world of business or geopolitically', he added. 'We are negotiating to make a nice, fair, equitable and balanced agreement to promote business,' Goyal said. Goyal is here on an official visit to hold talks with Swiss leaders and business representatives to boost trade and investments. The remarks have come at a time when a US team is in New Delhi for the trade talks with their Indian counterparts. The week-long deliberations conclude on June 10. In February, US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to negotiate the first tranche or phase of a mutually beneficial multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall (September-October) of 2025. It is aimed at more than doubling the bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030 from the current level of USD 191 billion. The visit of the US official team gains importance as India and America are likely to agree on an interim trade agreement by the end of June, with New Delhi pushing for full exemption from the 26 per cent reciprocal tariff on domestic goods. The US has suspended the proposed tariffs till July 9. There are expectations that an interim trade deal could be finalised before that. The US remained India's largest trading partner for the fourth consecutive year in 2024-25, with bilateral trade valued at USD 131.84 billion. The US accounts for about 18 per cent of India's total goods exports, 6.22 per cent in imports, and 10.73 per cent in the country's total merchandise trade. Pittsfield seeking volunteers for Housatonic River cleanup
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) and the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) are seeking volunteers for the annual Housatonic River cleanup. Easthampton Fire Department teams with Baystate Health for blood drive The cleanup will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Interested volunteers are encouraged to meet at Wahconah Park to begin cleanup of the river's west branch. It is recommended for participants to wear old clothes and sneakers, a hat, waterproof boots or waders, and sunglasses, and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. BEAT and HVA will also be providing a limited number of waders for volunteers to borrow. Canoes will be on site to transport all trash and debris found at the banks and bottom of the river throughout the event. Organizers said that these cleanups have made a significant difference in the Housatonic River's health, finding a variety of unusual items in the water. Notable trash included shopping carts, televisions, mattresses, and even an empty ATM. BEAT and HVA said that the gradual decrease of trash in the river would not be possible without the help of volunteers each year. The host venue was locked in and confirmed more than a month before the deadline. 'Ahead of time, the teams now have that knowledge and understanding with the exciting announcement of Naples, Italy, in 2027. 'In contrast to the statement by Athena Racing, all teams have already been offered full access and transparency to the host venue agreement (HVA), which was signed just last week, upon their signing of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Such a requirement is standard practice with any contract that contains commercial sensitivities. 'The defender is yet to receive the returned NDAs from Athena Racing as challenger of record.'
