Egypt's SODIC Water Polo Team Makes History with Double Victory at Global Youth Tournament in Italy - Omni sports
Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, has congratulated the SODIC water polo team on its unprecedented double triumph at the prestigious 'Haba Waba' International Championship, held recently in Italy.
The team clinched first place in both the 2014 and 2016 birth-year categories at the tournament, widely regarded as the youth World Cup of water polo, which featured over 60 teams from around the world.
This dual victory marks a historic milestone: since the tournament's inception in 2008, no team had ever claimed both age categories in the same year. Several European sports outlets highlighted the achievement as a sign of Egypt's rising influence in international youth water polo and a testament to the country's strategic investment in grassroots sports.
Minister Sobhy noted that the victory reflects not only the talent and commitment of Egyptian athletes but also Egypt's growing stature on the global sports stage. He praised the players and coaching staff for their outstanding performance, underscoring the success of national sports development programs.
This latest triumph builds on SODIC's earlier achievements this year, including victories in the Haba Waba tournaments held in Spain for the 2013 and 2015 age groups. In 2023, the club's 2013 team also secured the title at the Italian edition, demonstrating consistent excellence across multiple age brackets and international events.
The delegation was led by Captain Hesham Saif, with Ahmed Adel serving as head coach. The technical team also included Abdel Rahman Fawzy, Mostafa Gamal, Mohamed Abou Gabal, Mohamed El Afandy, and Mohamed Bakhit.
Their leadership and structured training methods played a crucial role in preparing the young athletes both physically and mentally to compete at the highest level. SODIC's continued dominance in the Haba Waba Championships underscores the value of long-term sports planning, international exposure, and strong institutional support for youth development.
As Egypt solidifies its standing in the global water polo arena, such victories serve as a source of national pride and a powerful inspiration for future generations of athletes.
