Minister Jarkiholi issues stern warning to officials failing in performing duties
Belagavi: District minister Satish Jarkiholi issued a strong warning to govt officials in Belagavi, stating that those who fail to understand and carry out their responsibilities will not be tolerated. Speaking to the media here on Monday, Jarkiholi said, "We cannot be held accountable for the failures of officials. Law & order situation in the city has deteriorated. As a result, city police commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang was transferred," clarifying the reason behind the sudden transfer of the police commissioner. Stating that 'many incidents could be avoided if the officials took timely preventive measures,' minister Jarkiholi indirectly mentioned the failure of the city police in handling the case of burning Quran and Hadith copies in Santibastwad village, on the outskirts of the city, three weeks ago. "Police must act responsibly. The commissioner's transfer serves as a clear message to all departmental officials," he said. Regarding development issues, the minister said: "We are willing to cooperate with officials, but not every task can be directed by the CM or me. Officials who neglect development responsibilities or fail to maintain law & order have no place in this district." Responding to criticism from the opposition regarding delays in disbursing funds under the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme, the minister clarified that funds have, at times, been credited twice in a month. "It's unreasonable to demand that the money be credited specifically on the 30th of each month. The govt has implemented guarantee schemes and allocated the necessary funds," he stated. Jarkiholi also raised concerns over the allocation of water from Hidkal dam to industries in Hubballi–Dharwad, saying it was done without his knowledge. "Previously, we halted the project. However, the Water Resources Department resumed work, and a tender was issued. About 2.5 tmcft of water has been earmarked for industrial use. Before such allocations are made, the CM and deputy CM must consult us. As more industries are expected to arrive in the Belagavi district, we will need adequate water to support them," he argued. Addressing recent remarks by actor Kamal Haasan about the Kannada language, Jarkiholi condemned them. "Kannada is an ancient language with a history spanning thousands of years. While we are unclear about the context in which the statement was made, he must apologise to the people of Karnataka," the minister asserted.

Protest against desecration of holy books in Belagavi
Members of various Muslim organisations held protests in some places in Belagavi district of Karnataka on May 16 against the alleged desecration of holy books, including the holy Quran, in Santi Bastawad village recently. A massive rally was taken out in Belagavi. Similar rallies were held in Hukkeri and some other towns. They complained that unidentified persons had stolen the holy Quran and Hadith books from a shelf in the village mosque, and burnt them in a field. A large number of people gathered in front of the Anjuman ground near Kittur Rani Channamma Circle. They raised slogans like 'Nara Taqdeer, Allahu Akbar' and 'Hindustan Zindabad', 'Islam Zindabad'. They held flags and placards. They demanded arrest of the accused. They submitted a petition to the Deputy Commissioner's office, demanding strict punishment to the offenders. Traders voluntarily closed shops on major roads of Belagavi to express solidarity with the protest. The crowd began swelling up after the afternoon prayers. The protest led to blocking of road traffic for nearly two hours in all the roads leading to the circle. MLA Asif Sait, youth leader Aman Sait, current and former members of the city corporation, and a large number of Muslim citizens participated in the protest. The protesters demanded the arrest of the accused at the earliest. Mr. Sait condemned the theft and burning of the holy books, and demanded swift legal action. 'What has happened is unforgivable. The Police Commissioner has promised to arrest the accused in a week. Earlier, the police had sought a deadline of three days. But officers were busy in cracking the case of the desecration of the idgah in the same village. Now that they have solved the old case, we hope that they will put their full force in this case,' he said. He said that a negligent police officer had been suspended. He appealed to the community members to maintain peace and to cooperate with the police. As a precautionary measure, the city Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang had imposed prohibitory orders in the central business district. Police had asked the protestors to carry out a peaceful march. Police said around 3,000 officers and personnel were on duty. The rally was disturbed for a few moments after some young protestors got into an altercation over allegations of some police constables pushing them. Senior officers pacified the agitated youth. As many as 11 organisations joined the protest in Hukkeri. They demanded action against the offenders and steps from the government to see that such incidents are not repeated.

Why I changed my mind about multiculturalism
When Blackburn MP Adnan Hussain complains about an opponent believing 'free speech means protecting the right to offend Muslims', you feel an instinctive response gathering in your throat. You're damn right it does. It means the right to burn the Qur'an, mock the Hadith and doodle cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed performing in a rainbow-flag hijab on RuPaul's Drag Race. In a liberal society, people should be free to blaspheme against any and all religions, even pretendy ones like Anglicanism. You should be free to tell Catholics they've built an entire church around one woman's genius excuse for getting knocked up by someone other than her husband. Free to tell Jews that when a solicitor gives you the title deed to a piece of land it's called conveyancing but when a voice in the sky does it it's called schizophrenia.

Holy texts desecrated, communal tension on Belagavi outskirts
BELAGAVI: In a disturbing incident, unidentified miscreants desecrated copies of the Quran and Hadith kept at a mosque in Santi Bastwad village on the outskirts of Belagavi. The religious texts were found at an under-construction site next to the mosque. The incident came to light early Monday morning when people came to the mosque to pray and found the Quran and Hadith missing from the ground floor of the mosque. After searching, they found the holy books in the plot. The situation quickly became tense at Santi Bastwad and adjoining areas. Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin and DCP (Law and order) Rohan Jagadish rushed to the spot and arranged heavy police bandobast to prevent the situation from going out of control. A large number of Muslim youth protested in front of police officials, demanding that the culprits be arrested within two days. They said previous similar incidents had not led to any arrests as the police had not taken stringent measures. The protesting youth wanted to march from Chennamma Circle to the DC's office. When the police denied permission for protest at Chennamma Circle and instead told them to hold their march near Visvesvaraya Technological University premises the protesters shouted slogans and blocked the Belagavi-Goa road near VTU. Within a few minutes, hundreds of people gathered and marched from Santi Bastawad to Rani Chennamma Circle, a distance of 8 km, shouting slogans like 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. A tense situation prevailed at Chennamma Circle, and roads leading to the circle were blocked as a precaution. The nearly one-hour protest caused traffic jams on several connecting roads. Two months ago, Santi Bastwad had experienced communal tension after a Hindu girl eloped with a Muslim youth on February 22. The girl's mother had filed a kidnapping case, but it came to light later that the girl had eloped willingly.

Sustained efforts
Islam is a religion wholly based on the principles of peace and tolerance. Violent activism is unlawful in Islam. Under no circumstances are Muslims allowed to adopt violent methods to achieve their goals. According to a verse of the Quran, 'God, calls to the Home of Peace' (10:25). If paradise is the Abode of Peace, how can someone who commits violence be granted entry into it? Present-day radicalisation of Muslim youth is derived neither from the Quran nor from the Hadith (the teachings of the Prophet of Islam). It is a self-styled upshot of unfounded anger, disillusionment and negative thinking of some radicalised individuals. This false ideology of violence developed as an attempt to regain the lost political glory of a bygone era. An extremist group of Muslims subscribed to this thought process cascaded it as the gospel truth. They misled youth into believing that Muslims have to regain their supremacy using terror. As per my research and study, the solution to this problem lies in a twofold approach. The first part relates to the implementation of the institutional framework that is under the control of government authorities. They must enforce all anti-violence laws and take strict action against perpetrators of any such act of violence. The second part relates to the role that non-governmental agencies have to play in society to ensure the restoration of constructive thinking and development of positive and non-confrontational approach. If peace is to be established and maintained, it will require sustained efforts of both governments and social reformers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like After Losing Weight Kevin James Looks Like A Model 33 Bridges Undo
