Hezbollah MP hails army, stresses state's role on Syria border
by Naharnet Newsdesk 20 March 2025, 13:07 MP Hussein al-Hajj Hassan of the Loyalty to Resistance bloc has noted that Hezbollah 'considers that the responsibility for addressing and confronting what happened on the Lebanese-Syrian border falls on the Lebanese state and all its pillars and institutions.' 'Hezbollah, as part of it (the state), communicated with officials to push them to perform their role,' Hajj Hassan added during a funeral in the region. 'The people of the resistance and others are Lebanese who have been attacked, and the state's responsibility is to defend them and to defend its sovereignty and land,' the MP said. Hailing the Lebanese Army, 'which performed its role, mobilized its forces and entered the Lebanese town of Hawsh al-Sayyed Ali,' Hajj Hassan lauded the army's 'command, officers and soldiers, and its newly-appointed commander General Rudolph Haykal.' The lawmaker also saluted President Joseph Aoun and Speaker Nabih Berri, saying the latter was in constant communication with the region's representatives. Addressing the clans and families of the region, Hajj Hassan called on them to be very vigilant, because 'some are working night and day to sow discord between the Lebanese themselves and between Lebanon and Syria.' 'There are U.S. hands, foreign intelligence agencies and others, and personal disputes that might happen and escalate,' he warned.

MP Hussein Hajj Hassan says reconstruction cannot afford any delays, should not be linked to any political conditions
MP Hussein Hajj Hassan, a Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc member, stated that the Lebanese government must immediately begin the reconstruction process without linking it to any political conditions. During a memorial ceremony marking the martyrdom of Hezbollah's two former secretaries-general, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, in Baalbek, Hajj Hassan stressed that reconstruction cannot afford any delays or extensions, or as some say, political reforms. He pointed out that reforms take years and that reconstruction should not be linked to any political conditions. He added that the only condition should be transparency in reforms and speed without haste. The process should continue within a very short time frame without any political preconditions. Hajj Hassan said, "We were subjected to a war aimed at eradicating our existence, but thanks to our alliance with the Amal Movement and the support of the environment and the heroic martyrs who continued until the last moments, the aggression could not crush the resistance and failed to achieve its goals."

Aqaba receives 86,000 tourists in January
Aqaba receives 86,000 foreign and local tourists in January, marking an increase of 103 per cent at a two-night stay rate (JT file) AMMAN — The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Tuesday announced that the gulf city received a "record" 86,000 local and foreign tourists during January. ASEZA Deputy Chairman and Commissioner for Economic Development and Tourism Hamza Haj Hassan on Tuesday said that this number reflects ASEZA's "strategic" plan in the tourism sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He said that the number of tourists in January marked an increase of nearly 103 per cent at a two-night stay rate, where the number of Jordanians reached 48,000 visitors, accounting for 55 per cent, and 38,000 foreign tourists. The percentage of hotel reservations during the same month was nearly 50 per cent, recording an increase of 84 per cent, and the highest percentage was for 4-star hotels. He added that the tourist port of Aqaba received two tourist ships carrying 3,000 tourists, while Wadi Rum received 12,000 tourists during January, stressing that the authority seeks to increase these numbers through tourism plans and programmes. Hajj Hassan pointed out that these figures came as a result of the programmes and activities implemented by ASEZA within its strategic plan, the most important of which is the launch of the Aqaba Carnival for Tourism and Shopping and the Aqaba Waves Festival. He added that such activities contributed to activating local and foreign tourism movement despite the difficult regional conditions. In light of halting 23 charter routes to Aqaba, the ASEZA seeks to find new tourist markets, mainly Saudi Arabia, whose tourists to Aqaba increased by 55 per cent in January, he added.

The visit aimed to enhance Jordan's position as a leading global tourist destination and highlight local expertise and promising investment opportunities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. It also improves Aqaba and Wadi Rum's status as a model for sustainable tourism development in the region. During a meeting with the delegation, Deputy Chairman of ASEZA and Commissioner for Investment and Tourism Hamza Hajj Hassan emphasised the importance of Aqaba as an "integrated" tourist destination. He highlighted the coastal city's diverse experiences and tourism products that attract the French market, which is considered one of the most significant sources of visitors to Aqaba and Jordan. He added that ASEZA is targeting this market through specialised promotional and marketing campaigns, in addition to participating in international exhibitions and markets to promote Aqaba and Wadi Rum. Hajj Hassan delivered a presentation of the city's current situation, future plans, and the incentives and investment opportunities offered by the authority to investors and businesspeople. Investing in infrastructure and revitalising tourism projects are key pillars of the ASEZA's 2024-2028 strategy, which aims to transform Aqaba into a distinguished and competitive economic and tourist hub in the region, capable of attracting leading tourism markets, he said. Delegation members, including several columnists, journalists, editors-in-chief, and news producers from the most prominent French print and broadcast media outlets, expressed their appreciation for the efforts made in developing the tourism sector. Hezbollah lawmaker Hussein Hajj Hassan slams US envoy's remarks, calls for full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon
Hezbollah lawmaker Hussein Hajj Hassan criticized comments by Morgan Ortagus, the U.S. deputy special envoy for the Middle East, saying they reaffirm Washington's full alignment with Israel. 'Her statement thanking the Israeli enemy for supposedly defeating Hezbollah is nothing new. It only confirms America's complete identification with the Zionist entity,' Hajj Hassan, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, said. He dismissed claims that Hezbollah was defeated, insisting that the group and other resistance movements remain firmly rooted. 'The occupying entity she praised will one day cease to exist,' he added. Hajj Hassan also accused Lebanese politicians who claim to defend Lebanon's sovereignty of staying silent on Ortagus' comments about the government formation. 'They did not issue statements, convene their parties, or react in any way. Either they are powerless or complicit, and in both cases, they should stop talking about sovereignty,' he noted. Addressing Arab leaders, he questioned their response to U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about relocating Gaza's population and establishing a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, or Egypt. 'How will you counter these American pressures and the coming Israeli-American plans for the region?' he asked, adding that Trump dismisses Arab objections by saying, 'They will comply.' He blamed decades of reliance on the U.S. for weakening the region, leading to internal conflicts and lost resources. 'This is why Trump and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu now claim they can dictate where a Palestinian state should be and enforce normalization by force,' he stated. With the February 18 deadline for Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese border towns approaching, Hajj Hassan urged Lebanese officials to escalate diplomatic and political efforts to ensure full Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territory. He also called on the U.S. and France, as sponsors of the agreement, to pressure Israel to complete its pullout.
