Unexpected breakthrough for Barney and Zack in EastEnders

Zack Hudson (James Farrar) might finally be able to form a bond with his son Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) in EastEnders. Last month, Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) discovered that his wife Nicola (Laura Doddington) had an affair with Zack 16 years ago, and she fell pregnant. Their eldest son Harry (Elijah Holloway) was left reeling from the news, and decided to kidnap Zack – bundling him into the boot of a car and driving off into the woods. Although Teddy was furious, he didn't want anything bad to happen and charged after them both. In a dramatic turn of events, a dazed and confused Zack distracted Teddy behind the wheel and the car went plunging into some icy waters. It really didn't seem like anyone would make it out alive. Teddy stumbled onto the riverbank, while Zack was presumed dead. Luckily, he survived, but was in for a further amount of heartbreak when Barney decided that he didn't want a relationship with him. Nicola has since tried to gloss over the situation – this week hosting a Half-Christmas celebration to try and distract her stressed and broken teenage son. Harry was less than enthusiastic about the festivities, and decided to invite Zack along, telling him that Barney was hopeful of his attendance. Blissfully unaware that this was just a giant fib, Zack wandered in to No. 1 in tonight's episode with a gift for his son. Nicola ordered him out, but Teddy remained silent. Mortified by the reception, Zack left, but told Barney that he would forever be there should he need him. Later, an emotional Barns' headed to the cafe, where Teddy sat down for a heart to heart. He assured him that although they weren't biologically related, nothing had changed and he still considered him as his child. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? In a surprising move, Teddy gave his blessing for Barney to get to know Zack better. Barney asserted that he already had a dad and had no intentions of changing that. More Trending Opening his present, it contained a number of vouchers for a local book shop. He was warmed by the gesture, and when Zack arrived, asked if they'd like to get to know one another better as friends. It wasn't exactly how Zack had wanted things to go, but it was a step in the right direction. View More » Is this the start of some happiness for the two? ‘Christmas' ruined in EastEnders as a family is torn apart - along with the tree

The Mitchell clan's Christmas has been ruined in EastEnders following a dramatic showdown. Yes, dear reader, it is still June. I haven't mistakenly published something six months early – or six months late. This week we saw Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) proudly announce to her estranged family that she was reigniting an old tradition. Half-Christmas does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a celebration of all things festive on the 25th June. She whipped the tree out of the loft, dressed it with baubles and slung some Michael Bublé on the record player. But eldest son Harry (Elijah Holloway) wasn't convinced. He believed she was papering over the cracks following a traumatic few months for the family. If you need a quick refresher: Nicola admitted to killing Harry's ex-girlfriend Shireen, who was pregnant with his child. He then learnt that younger brother Barney (Lewis Bridgeman) had actually been fathered by local PT Zack Hudson (James Farrar), and kidnapped him. A frantic and distraught Teddy (Roland Manookian) chased after them both, still in disbelief about his son's paternity and fearing the worst for Harry's wellbeing. To cut a long story short, a car carrying Teddy and Zack plummeted into some icy waters, Zack was presumed dead but eventually returned hours later only to be rejected by Barney. The Mitchells then returned home and burst into laughter playing a board game. The end – or so Nicola hoped. In tonight's episode, Harry couldn't help but feel that his mum was trying to erase everything that had happened. After all, they only reunited as a unit to support Barney. Barney remained enthusiastic about Half-Christmas, but Harry reminded him that the only reason it began was because Nicola ruined one Yuletide and she felt the need to make up for it. Bumping into Zack at McKlunkys, Harry decided to twist the knife by inviting him a long for the lunch. He said that Barney wanted him to be there, as they were now family. Zack wasn't convinced, but nevertheless thought it would be a good way to bond with his son. Back at No. 1, Teddy helped Nicola prepare the tree, and it seemed that the two were finally making amends. However, when she tried it on with him, she soon realised that she couldn't have been more wrong. More Trending Teddy spelled out where he stood on their relationship – branding her a 'nasty, toxic mess of a person', saying he wished he'd never had the 'misfortune' of meeting her. Little did they realise, Barney had witnessed the altercation and watched on in horror as she brought the Christmas tree to the ground. It's the most wonderful time of the year… View More » EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One or can be streamed from 6am on iPlayer.
